Default My First Machine - Vintage Sanyo Comet II...

    Hey all, .

As promised, here's the new thread of mine with the details/pictures of my new Machine...

I only have time to post the pics at the moment, but I do know that it's a Sanyo Comet II Machine - as you'll see from the pics. From the stamps, it seems to have been made in 1976.

It seems to be in great condition - and all the payouts and lights worked when I tested it at the old owner's house. He said he got it from Japan.

I look forward to cleaning, tweaking, and discussing... I haven't hooked it to power or messed with it at ALL at home yet. Here are the pics, I hope they're sufficient:

he added a buzzer that can be connected in addition to the stock sounds.

    Comet II!

Not sure if this rubber thing is supposed to be worn like that, but I don't see how it could get worn - maybe just cut down.

Not sure if this is a ground that is disconnected, or if they just used it as a screw.

    Original!

Just a point of view against playing cards to show you the amount of balls I got (umm...)

If there are any stray balls inside the frame, pulling this tube out (but not remove) will cause them all to fall through that very tube... handy!

I can't wait to hear the feedback,

    Thanks,

    Matt!

Thanks! Also, look up, i added several more pics (I believe I was editing while you posted)

Even though it doesn't seem that it needs a ton of work, I am sure I'll learn a lot from this machine.

Also, here's a fixed (not as blurry) pic of the balls that are inscribed...

    Goodnight,

that machine looks to be in great shape, and not a bad case with it, either.

I think that a couple lights got added, one to the upper left and one down by the shooter. they aren't stock, but may be extra jackpot and low ball lights, from the looks of it.

the leaf switch on the right is probably fine, and the rubber bumper just to insulate the vertical bar from the current.

was there a transformer or just a 6 volt lantern battery? I take back what I said about using a 9 volt if there are 2 extra lights and a buzzer. I would use a lantern battery or a wall transformer about 6-9 volts, with at least 1 amp output. a 9 volt would not last long ringing a buzzer.

clean machine and good deal with all the balls.

I expect you will have the sound of jackpots in no time.

    welcome, again, to pachitalk!

    Mud,

Yes,. he was using a 6V lantern battery. I have a unlimited access to wall packs with variable output, so I will definitely be all set in that department.

I think some lights may have been added as well - there is also an 'extra' one that is sitting in the frame, unattached. I would also like to incorporate some LEDs eventually... AFTER everything is running fine.

Also, swinging, tear-shaped pendulum near the top feeder line also causes a light to turn on when it's raised. Pardon my part-name ignorance, that seems to be the one piece I don't see identiefied while researching. Not sure if THAT light is stock or not.

I would Like to add more lights, as long as they fit the theme without being crazy, but I would like to make sure that the original lights and locations are correct first.

Also, one of the two below trays (pics from vintagepachinko.com) is the exact, original one that the guy game me, and I received enough balls to almost fill two of them - the container supposedly holds 450, or 750 balls respectively - I'll check later for sure. Either way, I have a decent amount!

    Thanks,

    Back to painting (The Kitchen)!

the pendulum thing just keeps the balls from coming down double layered. I looked at your pix, and I can't see how that would cause a light, unless it is letting the balls higher up the chute not push the low ball switch.

LEDs are nice. less heat, longer run time. I have switched a few over. they make blinking ones, too, that are good for the low ball light.

have fun (not painting the kitchen, though), working on the pachinko!

    Mud,

I'll investigate that switch further, I couldn't figure out how it was doing it either, heh...

    Everyone,

Here are some close-ups of the playing field...it's puuuurty.

    Bonus...

Still haven't had time to start working on the machine, but I was very happy to find that instead of using the staple to open my 'altered' lock, I can use one of the Vending Tumbler keys that I have laying around, and it works perfect! Opening the machine for a friend with a Tumbler Key looks a little more official than using a staple!

    Just wanted to share,

did you have to cut the key to fit the cylinder? I've never tried opening my comets from the lock side. usually I flip then around or release the switches from the back. good to know if you want to wall mount in a cabinet.

    Elaine,

No, I didn't neetd to cut anything. All that is required on my lock, something to grip the shaft, and turn it. Before the staple would fit into two of those holes that you see - now, my tumbler key grasps the little "notch" on the tumber, and uses that for leverage.

Not sure what was done (or how it was done) to the original lock - but I like it!

    Hey all,

Ok,. got a chance to look over the machine a bit. Nothing really wrong other than some dust and dirt from being used over the years.

Also, the way it was wired was that when power was applied, the lights would all stay on constant.

I found that the empty hopper switch was not connected, and the jackpot leaf switch was not connected. Now, looking back, you can tell in the pictures. The owner also had a buzzer in there (mounted to frame) to sound when there was a jackpot - but that was not connected...

No big deal, I tested the hopper switch, it works just fine, and the leaf-switch is in tact so it should work fine (didn't actually test it, but it will work).

Now, those are the ONLY two stock-switches that this has, right?

I am trying to picture how the original configuration was. Looking at the back of the machine (pics above) perhaps the empty hopper switch was wired to one of the two bulbs in the upper right - and the jackpot switch was wired to the other bulb (or both?)

Regardless, I already have LED kits wired up, and ready to add.

I think I am going to have it lit up in the following way (looking at front of machine)

    1) Empty Hopper Switch: Wired to blinking LED in orange flower (upper right) OR the red portion of the upper left flower.

    2) Jackpot Leaf Switch: Wired to LEDs in the orange flower, upper red and upper orange (so all available locations)

    3) Constant/Power-On switch: Blue LED in the ball window near the shooter handle. This way, there will be a cool-blue glow so that you know the machine is on.

I would eventually like to add ambient playfield lighting lights in case the room is dark...

Sound good - is there anything I am missing?

    Thanks,

    Matt!

sounds like the adiction has bitten u hard

I have several machiens taht have places where lights could go.. and places where a second light looks like it belongs there.. sometimes the factory instaled these holders but never instaled lights..

i think they were put there to screw with our heads 30 years later

looking forward to seeing pics of your updates

yes, you are correct that there were only 2 switches originally.

hanabi's right on the wiring: upper left RED = low ball, upper left yellow = jackpot.

mine has a 2 bulb holder. the upper right didn't have a light... now you got me thinking about drilling another hole again

I would use the two upper yellows for jackpot and the upper left red for low ball, blinky is nice

for the lower shooter window, I would use that for jackpot also, though a "on" indicator is nice if you plug into the wall.

were there other lights added elsewhere?

for ambient lighting, I used a halogen from ikea, or a LED light from costco. they sell them as picture lights. lights up the whole playfield that way. nice effect at night.

inexpensive ball tray a playfield light

as mopar said, you got the pachinko bug bad... makes us happy to have another addict though...

    Mud,

If you look in the pics, you can see a few other lights stashed around. Just follow the wires. Some of the locations had nice holes drilled for the 'aftermarket' lights...
