    Default LED's instead of Fluorescents?

Just wondered if anyone here has modified a pachislo so that the lightling is provided by white LED's instead of those florscent bulbs. Seems like it would be safer and save electricity. If you have 20 or more pachis in your home, the electric bill can add up. Thoughts or Comments?

i thought about converting one of my sega slots over... the lights don't work at all on it and its set for 220 English..

my thoughts were to use a wood dowel (the same diameter) as the original bulb so it would use the original holders and drill holes threw it to install the leds..

i think I'm going to try and restore it back to florescent but i did put allot of thought into it

im the kinda guy that likes to have everything as original as possable.. so that is y im going back to florescent

Just make sure you get the wide angle LEDs.

I would think the biggest thing against this is light distribution, your going to end up with a bunch of white dots instead of an overall white glow. I could probably replace several fluorescent for what one decent led bar would cost.

How many watts is a fluorescent bulb in a pachi? Let's assume 10 watts - on 5 hours a day - 365 days a year - .118 cents a kilowatt hour (+- some fees and taxes)

$2.1535 a YEAR to run. Yeah, if you've got a lot, it adds up, but I'm stickin with fluorescent

    I agree with compirate.
the tubes will give better light. But as I said, if ou go LED, use wide angle. It will help with the dots of light.

Fluorescents are already one of the best lighting methods to save electricity .How ever if your commited to this idea and i were you id wait till Christmas season and use a set of led Christmas lights to do the mod there already set up to handle 110volt ac and if you cut a piece of Plexiglas diffusion glass to fit you can get rid of the dot effect as well . The shear number of leds in the string should allow sufficient lighting effect to replace the Fluorescent fixture and allow for replacements in the future .

I just found these at Ikea. They might work. They come in white or programmable colors. Do a search for Dioder LEDs on YouTube and you'll find some unique applications for these...

I was thinking of led's at each end of a lucite tube so that the light would be distributed equally...maybe thats the ticket?

If you look at thew youtube link in my signature, my bar is lit with the Ikea LED light bars. The reason it has an even glow is that they point straight down and the inside of the bar chamber is painted white so the light bounces around better. When you point them straight at the glass, there are six very clear dots.

Lets not forget about CCFL kits too. I saw these for replacement lighting in regular slot machines with 12v PS and inverter. The lighting looked just as good if not better.
