Volume Control question

seem as i rember reading long agoe (when i didn't care about such things) that...

when hooking up volume controls I should set them machine's volume controles at max and use the new volume contoles to adjust the volume to a tolerable level??

is this right or should i set the machine volume to the lowest setting??

seems like someone said having the machines set to max gave better quality sound??

I believe it's the opposite. Set it to LOW. if you're using pots, you'll be less likely to burn them up.

everything I read says the positive wire. but I've done it both ways and it works.

I hope it does not matter because I see no way of telling which is the postive and which is the negative.

You should be fine either way. I've also read +.
one way to tell is on the speaker. by or on the tabs, there is usually a + or -. Also, the COLORED wire is usually the + if I remember correctly. White is -. But double check that.
