    Question Nishijin-B vintage pachinko restoration

    Hello All,

My girlfriend saw a pachinko machine on craigslist and decided she wanted me to restore one for our apartment. I found a pretty banged-up one at a local flea market and have finally sat down to begin the restoration.

I had a quick question about the wiring. I bought a 9-volt snap connector from Radio Shack and attached the wires to the machine. The jackpot light lit up so I declared it a success and put it aside. My girlfriend came home and I excitedly tried to show her the working lights but when I re-attache the wires the jackpot light would not light up. I'm heading out to Radio Shack to pick up some new bulbs to see if that fixes the issue but I was wondering if I might have accidentally fried the wiring by poking the battery connectors around a bit earlier. I also attached an automobile fuse, not sure of the amp. I'm not really worried if I fried it as I can just rewire it but I'd like to know if there is something else I might be missing.

Here is a photo of my amazing wiring job:

If you're interested, here is a bunch of photos I took of the machine. It is in pretty rough shape and I'm assuming I'll have to repaint most of the chrome after I give it a good cleaning.

Also, thanks for all of the information I've already gleaned from these boards. I don't think I would have jumped into this if I hadn't found this site.

    Welcome to the board, MrWrong.

Nice machine you have! It looks a bit rusty but I think that's typical considering where it was found.

There are tons of posts about the proper way to clean your cell as well restoration topics. I'll save you time and simply say, "Don't use water to clean your cell!"

As for the lights, it may be the bulb but could be corrosion in the lamp socket or even broken wire connections. At this point, tho, I wouldn't bother with the lights and I certainly wouldn't start playing the machine until you have cleaned the pathways and cell. And don't use dirty spheres!

    Am I rambling? Sorry.

There are lots of helpful people on this board. Don't hesitate to ask for help or suggestions!!!

Not rambling at all, thanks for the tips. I wasn't planning on trying to play it until I've completely disassembled and cleaned it from top to bottom. I just tried out the lights first as it would be a quick "oh neat" moment.

You might find the document 'How a vintage machine works' helpful as it was written with a B-Model as a subject.

It's awfully tough to burn up these wiring in the vintage unless you just put some huge voltage to it and no stop after the first sparks. There are several links and threads on here with wiring diagrams.

Please post the photos in the thread as mopar pointed out. When I'm at work, the storage sites are blocked but this site isn't. Thus if they are posted here I can see them. I think there are several others that have the same situation.

Not even a good WebMonitoring system can keep me from PACHITALK!

Nice pics. That area with the nails on the right side is where mine has the plastic bar with the jackpot lights in it. I wonder whitch came first? Both model "B". But mine had clowns on it so I made it a COKE machine.

It is nice about that model is how the lower door comes off by lifting one pin at the hinge. Then the ball loading mech. comes off easily after that. Cleaning those parts are easy and give the "WOW" factor.

    Oh yea WELCOME!!

looks really cool, that Side.Tross is neat too I've never seen that. I can see if the tulip arm is closed, the shot falls in the scoop to the drain, probably but no really cool machine here.

Just in case you haven't, this is a great thread : http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/vint...o-machine.html

In means of rarity many Nishijins are very commen but there is variation. Our historical information on these machines is spotty if not absent altogether. This reduces the ability to define rare to everyone. Many times if not all the time the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I would say the side.tross adds some rarity to it plus the "Super DX" is in a different font style than what you usually see. Additionally I had restored a machine for a guy that had the same exact lower fire bird cups. All in all though with some painting or re-chroming, cleaning (your restoration) you'll have yourself a very fun machine.

If you are thinking of completely restoring it, Amazon has a book written by the owner of Pachinko Planet which does a great job of going through the entire process of tearing down and restoring a "B" model Nishijin like you have. It's only 10 bucks for the e-book version. I have it and it helped alot with my playfield replacement that I am doing on my Model A.Very interesting machine there. I love these things.
    71 Nishijin "A" Bowling, 80's Nishijin Hit Parade , 05 Sankyo Star Wars, 07 Fuji Yamato 1, 09 Fuji Yamato 2

    First off to Pachitalk!

Second can you do us all a favor and post some pics of your own machine.

The machine shown in the first post is a 1973 Nishijin Model B (Sidetross) with what I call the blob background (kinda lame truthfully). I wouldn't say the sidetross is "rare" but it is a little less common than your typical Nishijin B.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask. And once again welcome to PT.
