    Default 70's Daiichi

From reading around in here and on the web, and perusing a whole lotta pictures - I'm pretty sure my machine is from the 70's sometime. I bought it in '85 but that fellow had had it for some time and said that he too bought it from a previous owner...

Well anyshoes, I also landed on Pachinkoman's site where there was a collection of what I now know to be expiration stickers/labels and on another page one machine verrry similar to mine so I thought I'd load my sticker shots and a full frontal and maybe a pachi-guru or two out here can translate the imagery into an early-mid-late 70's category? I'm curious to know who's older... me or the machine

plus sorry for the gigantic pics - just how DO you all get the thumbnail strips to work in messages?

im at work so i cant load a pic directly into this thread.. hear is a pic of one of my two Daiichi machines this one is dated 48.. that makes it a 73 expiration sticker.. and depending on your thoughs about life in a parlor made in 71 or 72..

IMHO it is very hard to come up with a date based on looks is really hard.. i have looked at machines and thought for sure it was an early Model "A" only to see a pic of the back and see its a Model "B"... and the same with others

best of luck to ya with your machine.. looks like a nice one.. one of my Daiichi's is my oldest.. being that i have owned over 20years

u can see a pic of my other Daiichi on my album.. under other machines

Yes very, very similar Mopar and really sweet looking - yours seems to be somewhat more elaborate than mine in the playfield design, as was the one on Pachinkomans site. Did they get more elaborate with time I wonder? I mean obviously they did mechanically, but artistically they must have also progressed...

Mind you, the 40's and the 60's were actually more visually exotic era's over all than the 70's... Anyone have a pic or link to a 50's machine?

Thank you for fixing my picks by the way , I actually had read the how to post pics thread before I put them up, but since my first post wasn't a quick reply I couldn't find the "advanced tab" lol and didn't realize I was starting out in that mode lol, so i just clicked the "insert image" icon. And speaking of images... how in the world did that last one get there?? It never showed in my preview and I certainly didn't intend for it to be there... I would edit it out since it's really out of place but alas I cannot find an edit button anywhere either

looks like yours is probably early 70's since bill's 1974 Vintage Pachinko Museum - 057 Daiichi Pachinko Machine has tulips and yours doesn't. tulips were usually later.

I have a early/mid 70's daiichi, too, that did not have lateral tulips. my parents bought this in about 76-77, so it's probably 74-75. I added tulips b/c the machine was so hard to get jackpots with. now I need to bend the nails in a bit to make it harder!

    tulip upgrade finished!

I have one similar in age to yours, sitting in the garage, waiting for attention.

I will take a close look at the labels to see if they are dated. most of my machines, though, have stickers like yours, without the actual parlor expiration date.

welcome to pachitalk . I can tell already that you will be a helpful contributor.

p.s. did you notice that bill's rewire of bowling did not include the ball empty tray? that's the second machine of his that I noticed where one of the switches wasn't restored, unless he took the pix before he finished all the wiring. yours looks to have both switches and lights, right?

hey, I found a dated sticker... yippeee!

here it is 51/12 1976, december or made 1974-75

yours might be a little older b/c mine has "deluxe" lateral pockets

p.s. sorry about the rotated pix, it seems to happen when I am close to the upper limit in picture size. the pix were vertical on my computer!

That last pic was an odd one...when I was editing your post the Photo Bucket link for that pic was there but it was at the end and the link was messed up somehow!! I got the pic to work and just put it in even though it didn't seem to fit!! I got rid of it now though..I hope its all how it's supposed to be now!!

You're so nice MrGneiss! Thanks for the fix up I had taken a bunch of extra shots of things in back because I wasn't sure if all the little levers etc were where they were supposed to be and thought I should have them on hand to ask questions. I've since learned in here that the biggest issue was really that I just don't have enough balls loaded for effective play/payouts - there's only about 100 now after so many moves - so while I'm thinking about it, anybody got tips for good places to get new balls?

Mudfud the tulips you added to yours look excellent - you did a great job very !! plus now I know why jackpots are so hard to get on mine - the balls almost never land in those little bottom cups.

I see what you mean about the wiring to the ball empty tray, could be for the sake of battery life? I noticed that since I don't have very many balls that light stays on constantly on my machine.
yours looks to have both switches and lights, right?
Yes, I have that one switch for sure - there must be another that makes the "jackpot waiting" light go on but I can't see it without taking things apart. There are only 2 lights, both on the right side - I wasn't sure which was for which so I put the empty ball tray light in the top orange strip and the jackpot light in the red lens.

I don't know if it's actually working normally - it lights up when a ball goes in the tulip, stays light until it pays off and then goes out... I don't if it's supposed to flash or anything since it's a pretty simple set up, and it's been some time since I've had it set up so I really don't remember how it used to work. I was going to put lights behind the other side lenses until I realized that the boards are nailed down in layers so there's no good way to get behind them without wrecking stuff.

u have really two good choices for balls

first is right hear on our own auction site
    500 Pachinko Balls - Used (Auction ID: 2570, End Time : Sep. 08, 2009 0026) - PachiTalk.com

second is to shop ebay.. sometimes u can get a really good deal of u shop hard and bid quick ..

as for your lights sounds like they are working exactly as they should .. one should come one when the upper ball tray is empty.. and the other will come on during payout.. neither should ever blink on and off..

if your machine is really tight on payouts u can try some simple nail bending to help the odds

On bending the nails to increase frequency of payouts, I suggest bending just a few, just a little. Play a good while and if still not happy, you can adjust some more. one time I bent all the nails above all pockets and I was getting way too many payouts.

I also heard about another source for balls and he includes gold balls and bucket. shameless plug... that's me. Pachinko Balls for Japanese Pachinko Machines.

Wishin you the best. I really like the diagonal on the front off these machines, gives them a nice look.

one other thing I used to do on my daiichi before I added the tulips was to use clear scotch tape to bridge across the nails above the tulips. both sides of each pocket makes it way too easy, but maybe bridge on just one side of each. gives you a built in tulip leaf on each pocket.

your lights sound correct. the tray empty stays lit until the lever is pushed down by a layer of balls. it doesn't usually draw too much current since you fill the tray up with a couple hundred balls to start. the jackpot light should just flash, for less than a second, when the seesaw in the green box gets tipped. if it blinks, the leaf switch might be bouncing a little bit. this one is vertically placed.

balls on ebay can be bought for 3.5 cents/ball if you're patient. if you want them now, figure about 5-6 cents per ball. I've purchased from stopexpress and goldenstatetraders (though packaging wasn't as good). bluehotaru has a good reputation with pachinkos and pachislos.

it seems expensive compared to the price of the machines, but I did go to the trouble of finding 11mm ball bearings, and they were at least 7 cents each, and no japanese writing!

    have fun!

    Thanks for all tips!

Ball prices are pretty fair, the shipping is prohibitive for me at the moment though so I think I'll just have to wait.

the jackpot light should just flash, for less than a second, when the seesaw in the green box gets tipped
This one goes on with a certain ball and actually stays on until a you get the right ball for a jackpot, which can be pretty long - does that mean the switch is sticking do you think?

sounds like yours might be sticking

can u post a pic of the back of your machine??

is your micro switches or leaf switches?? leaf's get bent easy and some times can end up almost working backwards

if u can locate the jackpot switch post a close up of it

    luck to ya

I'm not sure where the other switch is back here, but if it isn't too hard to pull out I'd try cleaning it up. I can post a better detail if you narrow what section exactly you wanted a shot of
actually wait a sec, is it these little contacts? I did clean these too but maybe they're not shaped right? I was wondering if the metal bits in this box were in the right positions, it seems a bit stiff when the balls drop - a bit of oil maybe?
