Default Julie the Pinball at a show

I've been attending the California Extreme arcade and pinball show since it began 13 years ago now. This year I took my Julie the Pinball pachinko to the show. We set it up on a round table with black velvet hanging down to the floor, far enough away from other machines to allow the crowd that was developing around it. I knew it'd be popular when it was drawing staff and exhibitors during setup the night before the show.

One guy seemed to love helping people by explaining how to play, filling the reward hopper, etc. which was great for me. I ran into a few people who knew what the machine was, a few that hadn't been to Japan in a long time and commented how much technology had changed, and a few that thanked me so much for bringing the machine.

Julie got no rest the entire weekend - someone was always playing. She fevered over and over, which was great for those playing the game, but required constant attention from someone to keep things going. I guess it made up for all the times it didn't fever for me at home! Julie was a stubborn machine at home, but let loose for the public. Showoff.

I put my email address on the stickers they give you to stick on your machines. I've received a few emails, answered questions, and pointed them at PachiTalk if they want more info. Hopefully a few new pachiholics were created.

Next year, I'll have a better ball management system. Definitely a larger reward hopper (which I'm working on for myself at home anyway), and maybe a much larger spent ball tray, in which people can grab balls for play - hopefully making this machine low to no maintenance.

Believe it or not, I didn't take any pictures. All I had was my camera phone, which in the dark... well... is pointless. I did some quick searching on google, and found this article. Scroll halfway down.

Awesome. Having a gameroom made up on many upright arcades and a growing selection of pachis I have witnessed, firsthand, the questions and the non-stop play that they get when people visit (especially newcomers). Its great to see the arcade and pachi worlds collide as many of us collect both and share appreciation for addictions from the west and east.

    OK johnD,

I finally got the video downloaded (you know how those supposed OS upgrades sometimes disable important things? that's what happened to my camcorder inputs).

I'll post the summary video under california extreme, but these were the stills that I could extract.

there were so many people looking at julie that I didn't get a good shot of her from a distance.

I modified the saturation, exposure, etc. to get as much definition as possible. the large amount of contrast between the dark room and julie's bright face made it hard for the camcorder.

were the california extreme people interested in having a section on pachinko next year?

I emailed them the week of the expo., offering to bring some, but I never heard back. I guess julie's easy b/c she's also pinball, right?

hope to meet you sometime. are you bay area?

Yeah, she got a lot of attention!

It took me 2 years to get approval to bring Julie, as it's an arcade and pinball show, but since it's pinball themed, it got the OK. Now that this machine has been shown, I'll ask if they want me to bring more or setup a section of pachinko next year. If that's the case, I'll post something here.

I'm in Los Angeles, so it's a bit of drive for me (even the show is a long drive). If I can bring more than one machine, I'm not sure I'd fit more than 2 in the car (in cabinets).

well. if they do OK pachiko's, there's several of us in the bay area that could bring them.

If I plan any LA trips, I would love to see your pachinko room (or is it "house", as my has become? ).

I have "Pachinko Island" in the bedroom (6 machines in 3x2, all in cabinets), 1 in the hallway, 2 in the livingroom, 1 in the bathroom, and more... Yeah, "house"
