    ok hear it is

welcome to the concrete stain brush (AKA Pica cell replacment brush)

my company special orders these brushes for concrete stain..

the reason i decided to try one of them was because they are very absorbant to wet materials..

test # one was using windex (ya ya i know dont ever use windex) i sprayed a verry light mist on the cell and used the brush to scrub the dirt off... work verry well... that cell had some existing water stains so i figured no real harm..

    DO NOT USE WINDEX

Test 2 was 5 min agoe with the use of New IN Towns cell cleaner (Thanks again Brian) the brush worked even better with cell cleaner.. If i had to complain there would be two problems with this brush

Big Problem # one was i did not wash the brush out befor i used it.. it had allot of fuzz from the cuting of the brissels.. A simple wash befor use would have solved this problem.. and i knew it was full of fuzz befor i started.. a little caned air solved the fuzz problem after i was done..

Problem 2 is the density of the brush.. i think when i buy another one ill pull every other set of Brissels out of the head and see if that makes it easier to use.. kinda stiff

both small problems and easy to use as is

if any one is interested let me know and ill order some in for u all

it will take me a few days to get them ordered and a night or two to get them listed on our auction site.. (dont know how to use our site)

ill make the same promis as Brian.. ill order them in and put them on the site.. will have to work out a fair cost for everyone.. im not interested in turning a profit.. but lets face it im not able to buy them and give them away either..

let me know what u all think

I tried a couple of different substances to remove the grime off of the playfield, and I think that I may have discovered a winner.

I am a little weary of anything that contains water, and simple green contains alot of water.
Windex is ammonia based, and should evaporate quickly with no residue... However, I have water logged a cell with windex before, so i know that damage can be done by amateurs...

I tried this product, just because i had it lying around. Its an electronics cleaner, and does not contain any water. It does however contain hexane, and petroleum distillates. Supposedly, it will not leave a residue. I tested it liberally on a playfield, and so far it looks pretty good. Best results came from using a moistened t-shirt, and hemostats. We'll see how well it looks tomorrow. Hexane is a solvent, and evaporates quicky. It may turn the cell to dust by morning.

Also, if anyone needs parts, this machine is a Model-A, and has some really unique pockets.

I went down the list of cleaners that were suggested.

So far, NOVUS #2 is the hands down winner. Take a look at the results.

Thats with NO effort at all. I just removed the nails and wiped off the dirt.
I'm going to let this machine sit overnight, and then inspect it tomorrow for any moisture damage.

I thinking that with a proper combination of Novus-2, and heavy alcohol mixture (Possibly a Mai-Tai, but more likely something tequila based), I bet I can get this machine to sparke!

Solenoid Layer are pretty similar between the Thunderbird and the Chinaman. but as someone said before there is an extra relay on the Thunderbird.

I believe that they connect to the three micro switches in the jackpot mechanism that open the entire playfield, or a either side.

The square components connected to the solid colored wires are just simple plug in connectors. The other side goes to the micro switches. (I posted about the powerflash micro switches before.)

Lucky for me, the Nishijin-C that MudFud picked up came with a dual output 12v / 24v transformer. Totally un-necessary for the vintage, but exactly what I needed!

Gameplay is (obviously) really similar to the Thunderbird Power Flash, with one big exception.
Both machines feature the Yellow "Joker" tulip that engages the solenoids and closes multiple tulips. On the thunderbird, each side works independantly.
Left joker closes the left side of the playfield, Right joker closes the right side.
On the ChinaMan model, either Joker will close ALL of the tulips. I'm sure the parlor owners loved this, but I find it to be a real pisser.

Looking closely on the machine, each joker has its own seperate switch. I think that I can modify it to work each side independantly by using a couple of 1N4001 Diodes. Going to have to think about it first.
I feel guilty even thinking about it, but I think that it would make the game more enjoyable to play... Especially for a youngster like my niece.

If you figure out how to do that would you mind posting it? I have thought about doing that mod myself but don't have the electrical expertise to pull that off. I am gonna leave my existing PF in stock form and the one shipping right now I'll try that mod on hopefully. There are both the "chinaman" version BTW. Thanks.

if you do modify, make it reversible, so vintage collectors can have it stock.

wish I was there to work on this. this is just the kind of circuit puzzle that I enjoy.

if you draw up a circuit diagram for it, send me a copy. you have me so curious that I'll have to draw up a circuit diagram for mine when I get back.

and, since yours had such lower odds, maybe the little man one was newer, not older than the thunderbird?

one other way to make it easier would be to make the center man open all the tulips. would need a microswitch, but might be easier than one half not closing?

you know, it might not need a diode. I just drew out a diagram where to have 2 independent switches closing the 2 solenoids, the solenoids would be wired in parallel... maybe just modifiying so wiring to each side's solenoid is activated by only that side's switch?

I am drawing up the schematics right now...

The circuit is 24vdc, and should be pretty simple to figure out once I draw it up.

But here my question, do solenoids require a specific polarity?
I.E. Can I reverse the positive and negative?

I believe that it doesnt matter, but I just figured that I'd ask here first.

    Thanks

I'm guessing there is a plus/minus to a solenoid, b/c the center piece is magnetized?

you could always reverse it and find out, without hurting anything...

There's a 4 diode bridge inside the jxn box. Johnny pointed that out to me yesterday. I had not taken mine down, so I didn't realize it. The 10 volts is still AC though.

I thought about the solenoid +/- question some more...

maybe the core goes the opposite way if you reverse the polarity?

Hey Emma! I got it working perfectly!

Good think pachinko machines dont have vocal cords, otherwise mine would be yelling "RAPE!"... I managed to make the mods that I wanted to, and I love it! But somehow, i feel kind of guilty... The same kind of guilt feeling as when i took my cat to get neutered.

Take a look at the pictures, its really easy.

#1) Clip the long white wire that connects the outer two solenoids together. This will separate the two yellow tulips.

#2) The two aces in the middle of the playfield are still hooked up to the right hand solenoid. When you get a ball in the right yellow tulip, the aces will also close. This can be fixed by bending two arms out of the way. Really easy to do.
Be sure that you bend the bottom arm UP and out of the way. If you bend it down, it wont clear other parts of the machine when you try to close it.

A Ball in the left or right Yellow tulip will now close the 4 tulips on ONLY that side. The rest of the board is un-affected (including aces!)

    Nothing else has changed
A ball in the top Heart still opens the entire playfield. (Including Aces)
A ball in the Chinaman Still opens both aces.
A ball in the King will still trickle down and open the entire side.

I highly recommend this mod, it makes the game so much more fun to play. The mod does not seem to make the make the game TOO easy, just more playable.

Picture #3 is the two arms AFTER bending.
Picture #4 is the location of the two arms BEFORE bending.

I'd love to hear some comments!

Thanks very much for figuring out how to do it!! Can't wait to get home to try this out. One question-the white wire that you cut, do the two ends just stay apart or do they need to be attached to something else? Thanks.

    Nope. you just cut it.
    Then bend those two arms.

Piece of cake. Dont worry, the arms are strong enough that you can bend them back later if you want to restore it.

I'm trying to get a little pachinko time in before work. LOL!
I really like this powerflash now thats its modified. I wasn't too thrilled with it before, but I absolutely love it now that I personalized it!

I also made another mod that made the top ace close with the left side, and the bottom close with the right side, But i like it this way better.

Let me know if you want to see how i did the first mod.

Yes I've noticed while playing in the stock form that sometimes I could get many jackpots in a row but also I could play and go thru hundreds of balls and not hit a jackpot or hit 'em frequently enough to keep balls in the tray. I'm sure this is in part due to the fact that when the yellow tulips are open the incoming balls pretty much are directed right into them thus closing off any open ones. So if you don't mind explain the mod that opens the Aces independently. Thanks again.
