    Default New here, hi!

Hi everyone, I'm Heather. The Pachinco machine I have was my Grandfather's who passed away back in the early 80's. It's been collecting dust ever since. I would love to restore it to it's original condition but...I'm not very handy. Would love ANY advice! THANKS! I created an album with pictures of it (Heather's Pachino). I haven't been able to find anything similar anywhere. I don't know anything about the machine other then it's a Nishijin.

Looks to be a nice Vintage Nishijin

btw there is a fantastic article by wrkey, not sure if you have seen it yet, but it explains exactly how a vintage pachinko works and I have found it useful myself, here's the link

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/vint...ine-works.html

Have you tried playing yours at all, and if so what happens??

    Hi Heather,

As Beachcat says, you have come to the right place. First and foremost, do NOT try to clean the face of your machine with soap and water...the water will damage the face badly.

That said, I have a machine that looked much like yours when I started restoring it. Dirt and grime on the face of the machine that were going in and out of the back of the machine...the back was nasty...just as yours seems to be.

If it were me, I would end up removing the entire backing to clean it, but before you start, you will want to really bone up on the many different threads and guides that you will see on this website. It looks daunting at first, but it's really not that bad.

    Take your time.
    Make a lot of pictures.
    Make notes where necessary.
Don't get your screws mixed up.
Take your time...wait, I already said that ...but it bears repeating.

    Keep us up to date!
I'm not addicted to Pachinkos. I can quit at any time. Did I tell you about the three machines that I have on the way?

    Welcome !

Q-tips and a good cleaning solution is a great start, watch out for sharp places

Take pictures when you begin to disassemble, to clean the ball paths and such, so you can remember how to put it back together.

Novus #2 plastic polish works great on the cell, and all plastic surfaces and parts.

I mostly restore moderns, but I am SURE the vintage folks will chime in for you soon.

Most of all... have fun, and your pachi will be beatiful again

    Hi Heather!!! WELCOME!!!

The back of your machine looks very complete...if not totally complete. It looks like you need with a basic cleaning to start with.

Before cleaning the front, I like to take a machine (pachinko or slot) and get it working first. I think with a little TLC and some 409, you can get it going.

    Plastics = 409
Metals...Chrome polish for the front, 0000 steel wool for the rust.

    Hope all goes well!

    welcome heather!

it's not that hard to restore a pachinko machine. cleaning it is the most time consuming, and yours seems to have all its parts, except maybe the cover over the jackpot rocker arm. but not to worry, it's not needed for function, and you can probably find one off another machine or make one out of clear mylar, just bend it around and replace the screws.

you will eventually need at least 200 pachinko balls, too. cheapest on ebay.

there are lots of restoration stories with great pictures here in the vintage section. many nishijin B's like yours have been documented. I had to deep clean one and take all the parts off the back b/c someone greased the balls, but hopefully you won't need to go to that extreme.

take lots of pix to make it easier to put things back together later.

also, please feel free to ask questions. this is a very helpful group of folks, with LOTS of experience with these things.

    have a fun time!

    Welcome Heather,

As Hanabi said, check out the 'How a Vintage Machine Works'. That article was written using a machine with the same mechanics as your as the basis. Also, I would also recommend that you 'dust it down' and clean the back portion enough to see that it will all work. Once you've done that, then move to a deep cleaning. This serves two purposes, first if you need parts or additional help on getting it going, you can acquire that while you are doing the basic cleaning. Secondly, by know that your machine works, you will be more inclined to deep clean it and spend the extra time and effort to do a more through job.

I noticed that there is some water staining around some of the nails, this is typical damage caused by someone washing it with water. This type of damage is irreversable unfortunately. So, q-tips and glass cleaner or 409 is the order of the day. I spay some cleaner is a shallow container, then dip the q-tip in it instead of spraying directly on the play field.

Hope this helps and good luck!
    Rusty Key
