    Just another quick question,

Should I post the progress of this restoration within this thread or create a new post for each accomplishment or God forbid error?

Thanks again to everyone for the very warm welcome.

You can use this thread or make a new one if you want..

It usually works good to have 1 thread for each machine restoration..so people can follow it from start to finish...but any way you want to do it is ok!!

But if you get it wrong, we'll feed you to the slugs!!

Are there any recommended lubricants for pivot points and shafts?

in general, you don't want to use any greasy stuff anywhere the balls will touch, since the balls will then drag the grease onto the cell. I use wd 40 for metal joints and to clean really rusty tin pieces (degreasing them later)

Are there any absolute no-no's for lubricating or cleaning besides water based solutions which has already been pointed out?

Is Brasso Ok for the pins?

that's what I've used for the pins, keeping it off the cell

On the chrome framing is Chrome cleaner and polish ok to use?

chrome cleaner is fine, if you use 00 steel wool, it will knock the rust and corrosion right off.

Are there any dangers with using canned compressed air to de-dust tight areas?
    don't think so

Will my wife leave me if I buy too many of these machines?

probably yes. in fact there are many of us that have posted about how our wives will kill us if they knew about the latest machine(s). one ploy, however, is to get the wife interested and even have her own machines!

Is it normal to be depressed when one missed getting PACHINKO!!! on the cheap?

absolutely. in fact, I've been scooped by members here a couple times. if it's on craigs list and a good price, go get it right away.

On the jackpot arm is it normal for it to appear warped (slightly curved on the flat side)?

can you post this? i have this machine (x 3), so I can compare

My thoughts at start from top to bottom on the front then move to the rear. (best advice my dad ever gave me about uh,,,oh,, I better leave that one alone)

whatever you like. I'm a mechanic/electrician, so I always do the mechanicals first. the detailing I am less enamored of

Thank's everyone for the very warm welcome,

    Jim
on the AC/DC, any of those transformers that puts out about 9 volts is fine. most of the time it's easiest to just use a 9 volt battery. don't have to worry about running a cord.

also, search for "cleaning cell" and look for eddie's and jacksea's posts. they do the best detailing that I've seen on the board. eddie lists particular cleaners that he uses. if I find the post i'll list it.

    have fun! and again, WELCOME!

Well it was an interesting day, Wendy (my wife) brought a cup of coffee and the paper this morning, and gave me the "look". When I get the "look" meaningful conversation is about to be in order.

Ok the sports section is finished and,,,,,,,,,,,,,, here it comes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the question and answer session.!

    Here's the dialogue,

(Wendy) You know we have a party on Saturday for the fireworks
    (Jim) Yep
(Wendy) Has the hot tub water been changed, you know its been 45 days?
(Jim) Yep, drained it last night,
(Wendy) Are you going to wax it today?
    (Jim) Yep
(Wendy) You know it takes 24 hours to reheat the tub.
    (Jim) Yep
(Wendy) How are you going to wax the tub if you are sitting there watching Tennis all morning?
(Jim) Because I get it done just like I always do.
(Wendy) Yepper you best bet you do.
(Wendy) I see you dragged that thing down from the attic.
(Jim) Its my new project for the rec room.
(Wendy) Why did another one appear next to it this morning?
(Jim) Because it needs a buddy!
(Wendy) What about the bumper pool table, I am going to lock you in the basement with your three new buddies and don't reappear until they are done! (She was pissed). (Expletives were deleted.)

Its amazing how one gets to do exactly what he wants to when he puts his mind to it.

I will not reveal the buddy pachinko (it's very special) until I am done with this project and the Bumper pool table.

So phase one of the restoration begins.

I am a bit unsatisfied with the quality of images hosted here so a flicker account is in order. I hope this will not upset the moderators or if a better image hosting sight is available please advise.

With high resolution images of each step of the process. From top to bottom.

Please correct any mistakes that I am making with this machine. I will attempt to post images of each step, and if in doubt I will wait for the Guru's here to correct or advise.

My hopes are the step by step restoration of this machine will be of meaningful contribution to this site.

Phase one starts after the fireworks party, Stay tuned for chapter one.

With my heartfelt thanks to all in the forum,

    Let the plastic surgery begin.

    Jim

women just don't have their priorities in order

    its play first, then work

my ex used to complain, every saturday on her day off work she would have to spend it cleaning the already clean house.

I told her to take a saturday off and not clean

That's nothing the conversation I got to have was over the phone.

(Sharon) I hun, are you real busy or can you talk? (She never calls me at work)
(Eric) No, what's up, are you and the kids ok?
(Sharon) The children are fine and so am I. The UPS driver just stopped and made a delivery.
(Eric) Yea, so what did you order from e-bay this time?
(Sharon) Nothing! (Oh she is pissed.)
(Eric) Hum ok what did they deliver?
(Sharon) From the size of the box it's another one of those things. It sounds like there is broken glass and there are steel ball falling out of the box. Just how many of these are you going to buy?

I can't blame her it was the 7th vintage machine I purchased not including the two modern ones I have. I'm now under a strict policy that I have to finish fixing and selling them before I can bring another one in the house. She doesn't care how cheep it is.

Welcome. not sure if your wife wants part of the "glory" of restoring the machine, but I have success with Shirley doing the cleaning and I disassemble and assemble the machine.

We run our parts through the dishwasher, no heat for the dry cycle. We still have to clean each part by hand with simple green but it removes enough of the dirt to make hand cleaning easier.

Bill I'd keep my head down if I were you, she blames you for my addiction. Quote "He had to put out a video to show you how easy it was". If it helps she's gotten so used to them that now I think she would only growle at you and then smile.

I personaly have always been fascinated with pachinko machines but it was one of my dad's toys we knew better then to mess with (ie dismantle). Seeing your videos is what gave me the confidence to even try messing with pachinkos even after all these years.

I have been working on her slowly into helping. Now she like to touch up the paint on the cells and redoing the spinners. Which I think is great since I can't keep my hands that steady.
