I just picked up 2 completely functional vintages yesterday. Although it wasn't as good a deal Dman's, it wasn't too far off. I haven't really done anything with them yet, but I plan to clean them up real well and maybe sell them locally. One is a Nishijin Sophia B with the exact same cell (two rainbows) as I have on my family hierloom in my bar/gameroom but different center and jackpots. It does have some water/oil? damage to the cell and the pins all need to be polished and straightened. The other one is an older Nishijin with the metal drop tray from the plastic ball hopper. I will post some "before" pix of the front and back soon. Wish me luck...

I don't know what you paid for them, but they appear to be fairly clean...not a bad start. I am personally partial to the "B" style back rather than the "A" models. Of course I've never had, or taken apart, an "A" model.

It seems kind of redundant with the one tray that feeds balls to the other tray for payoff, but I'm eagerly looking forward to investigating further.

These are getting towards the end of the hand operated ball handling system (attendants behind the machines actually inside the aisle). The played balls are recycled to the payout system - requires less handling on the attendants part.

Yeah, what Mopar said. The Model A's only need a couple of hundred balls. The first time you have to empty the lost ball tray on the Model B you'll see what we mean. The Model A recycler tray was a great idea, maybe THE perfect idea for home use on vintages.
