    Smile new sniping tool :)

ebay has added a realtime clock on the last hour of bidding with automatic updates on bid amounts

no more refreshing to check time or bid

finally something worthwhile added to their site

To use this feature to aid in ebay sniping, you'll still have to be sitting at your computer waiting and watching. Why not use an automated sniping service such as Free eBay sniper. eBay auction sniping made easy. An eBay bid sniper - Home ?(there's more services to choose from)

Automated sniping saves you your most important asset, your TIME. Schedule a snipe and go about your day - "set it and forget it".

Whichever route you go, just remembe3r that sniping isn't magic, you still have to have the highest bid to win.

I just really love the thrill of being there at end of auction, finger poised ready to strike in the very last seconds...

Okay I may lose a few, but it's still fun!!

i just like not driving the cost of the item up by bidding early .I know how much i'm willing to bid already so i put that in the sniper and set it and forget .also like the ability to change my mind before the bid actually goes off thats why i use a sniper and i usually win with it allot lower than i was willing to pay ..

With my addictive/obsessive personality I find it best to just put in my max bid and let well enough alone. Otherwise I'd do rash, foolish bids.

I guess as long as you don't have a discipline problem and can control your competitive side (unfortunately I'm 0 for 2), manual sniping is a good alternative when you have the time.

However, while preparing to snipe manually (or using an automated service for that matter), if you check on the auction and see that your planned maximum bid has already exceeded, don't give in and increase it in your mind. Decide on your absolute maximum bid and place it when it is time (if it has not already been exceeded).

If you win, good. If you lose, as far as you're concerned, the winner paid too much.

I think Hope Chest has explained in a little more clearly above.

As far as automated sniping, to go along with what alstonj1 has written, you can schedule a snipe and then cancel it, normally up to maybe the last five minutes of an auction. This would be much better than placing an early bid and then having to file a bid retraction if you change your mind.

Bid retractions can affect your future bidding, as sellers can restrict bidders that have been retractions from bidding on their auctions.

So, if you see something on eBay that you're all excited about but then maybe a day or two later the excitement wears off (or you find a better deal somewhere else) and your rational practical thinking takes over, it would be much better to just cancel your scheduled snipe rather than have to file a bid retraction because of placing an early bid.

You also might find a better deal somewhere else.
