    Default Appreciate Pachitalk.

Boy you don't appreciate pachitalk enough till you go on other forums looking for help on a construction problem. You post your question to people who do this work for a living and the best they can come up with "is this guy for real?!" Talk about looking down on people!
Well can anyone here help with repairs to flat tin porch roofs that have soldered flat seams? Previews "PACH" Is now the problem since coming sense was it short supply. But what do I know, I'm just the painter not a roofer.

I think this is a very unique Forum, in fact I look at it as a collection of friends that share the same interests...

And although having a roofing company, I don't know anything about Tin Roofs??

We mainly carry out Tiling / slating and flat felt roofing works, so not sure I know of anyone that could assist with tin roofing, but if you could expand on your query / problem I could perhaps try find some info for you??

Or are you looking for a contractor to carry out works over there??

Just watch out for the cats, they seem to gravitate towards hot tin roofs.

compirate that's funny. Here is a pic. of the roof. The area just in front of the door was the patch. Lucky most sites only help with slanted roofs and how to repair them. That is easy. This roof they will be walking on. Hole nuther ball game.

I am not sure why it would be different Laz. The "Tin" isn't load bearing. It is just the method for channeling the water. The load bearing part should be under the tin. Which means the question is, "what does the substrate look like?" But like you, I don't do roofs... I am not fond of heights.

Oh, I thought this was a pretty good website. It doen't have to much that will help you, but it was a great read.

Any way to seal it and lay down some nice outdoor carpet? A sheet of plastic under it would help with runoff.

I have somewhat the same thing over part of the garage, but we don't spend a lot of time walking up there

The tin is soldered together in one and a half by two foot sheets. It floats on the sub base. As you walk on it most is flat and does not give. Some other sheets do give and spring back up. one of the fixes is you imbued mesh like for fiberglass. If you step on it and it gives it will crack.

Out door carpet is vary bad! I glued down outdoor carpet on a 4x10 balcony. It has so deteriorated that only peace's are left with the glue lines showing.

i wonder if rubber roofing membrane would hold up to walking on?if not, maybe you could put something else as a wear layer on top of it?

Rubber has it's uses. Roofs that you walk on is OK only if you don't need to walk on them vary much. There fine when there dry but wet then one second your walking the next your taking a nap!
I had to replace my nice tin porch roof with rubber after my half brothers re roofed my place and dumped shingles on it then cleaned it off with shovels and pitchforks!!. Considering the standing orders were in winter only a broom was to be used to clean off snow or you could turn up a seam and make it leak.
This is the renters porch with a set of steps going up to it. The standing order is NEVER use the steps or porch when it is wet and off limits in winter. They are renters so rules don't apply to them. I have not figured out why one of them has not taken a header off it yet.

There all loose. Each panel is just sheet metal. It warps over time and does not stay perfectly flat. I have an Astro van as one of my work vehicles. You sometimes need to get up on the roof to tie down ladders. It gives then springs back up (most of the time) Put bondo on it. How long will the bondo last?

I spent pretty much a whole day trying to find answerers to this. I had nothing better to do since the weathermen get paid to be wrong.

i guess if that's a rental unit, there is only one thing i would do.that would be to fix that roof as cheaply and economically as possible, to protect the house from water damage ,then taking whatever steps are necessary to keep the renters off of it.if that means nailing the door shut and knocking the stairs off, then so be it..if you own that property, you could be sued by any idiot who fell off and broke his neck.believe me,you do not want the liability .also, that was a funny bondo joke.i work in the automotive industry, and i know for a fact, bondo will crack when you flex the sheet metal it is applied to.that would allow moisture to attack the bare steel underneath it,and you would soon have rust holes in the roof of your van.better to leave the dents be.nobody can see them way up there anyway.

    Most probably not!!

Over here if we need to have a roof for foot traffic, then they have to be strengthened to take the weight of 'promenade tiles'

these are special non slip heavy paving style walkway tiles, very heavy and very expensive, they sit on little pad things to keep them off the roofing material, but anything pressing into it will over time damage the roofing

I wouldn't think tin roofs would be safe for anyone to walk on really

Wouldn't it be better if it was just a deck type thing or something or is that roof over an interior space??

Or could you build or put like a deck type thing on top of the roofy part??

You can really tell how much I know about roofing and construction!!
