But they'll deliver 30kg to Canada! What's up with that?

The people I normally use for importing stuff say they will only ship EMS or UPS to the UK is about $700-$900. But then again, its normally small stuff like models or anime cels that they ship for me.

I think it may be because the greedy usps doesn't make any money on the shipping

I suppose this is the way usps deliver regular mail and packet, maybe big packets cannot be put in the regular devilry van and must be delivered using the express van only.

I get many stuff from Japan, including complete pachinkos and cells, some didn't have customs fees. It never happened with UPS or Fedex, always paid onerous customs and unrealistic fees with them. But maybe there's some agreement between Japan and Canada, because once the package reach the custom, I can track the shipping on Canada Post with up to date information, instead of waiting that these info are sent to Japan Post.

I find the same thing with royal mail online tracking. Comes in very useful if I'm waiting for something, As I can see if its left the local office in the morning.

Apart from the price there is no difference in SAL or Surface Mail in Germany. Both is taken over by DHL Germany: SAL at the airport in Frankfurt/Main, Surface Mail at the harbour in Hamburg. Customs in Hamburg are normally faster (1 day) than in Frankfurt (2-3 days). Both shipping methods are fully trackable online at DHL and Japan Post. When the package leaves Japan for its destination it is already trackable on the DHL website.

Shipments from Japan to Germany with Surface Mail will take 6 to 8 weeks, SAL will take 1 to 2 weeks. It normally makes no sense to use expensive EMS: The delay caused by customs makes the advantage of express post minimal.

Found my second hanemono machine today!

Newgin with a beaver lodge theme, complete with little animatronic beaver in the center feature. Can someone help me ID it?

Seller reports that he bought it at a Texas rodeo in 1994. It came with an oak cabinet and a bunch of balls. Silly thing stubbornly refused to shoot more than a couple of balls for the seller when he tried to demo it for me, and I couldn't get it to work either. I made an offer anyway, and when I got it home and set it up on the workbench... it decided to work. After clearing some unidentified fluff out of the weird ball regulator gear... thing..., a general cleaning, and clearing out a load of queued up payouts, it is playing like a champ.

I got a kick out of the 1994 answer to volume control. "Too loud! Slap some tape over it!"
