    Default Byop

Hello everyone, I've been lurking on these boards for a while and now feel comfortable enough to contribute to these boards. Especially since I'm ready to take the plunge and purchase pachinko machine(s).

So, I'll be spending some time in Tokyo from the US and was wondering if anyone has had experience with Bringing Your Own Pachinko machine (BYOP) home with you. Assuming I can get past bidding successfully and get past shipping to a Tokyo address - hey, that's what friends are for - how easy/difficult/painful is it to bring the machine home as a part of luggage? Has anyone every tried this? Might there be a another recommended way? Thanks for your advice.
    Pete.

    Welcome!

I think you will have some problems bringing it home as luggage since many airlines have size and weight limits on carry-on and checked luggage. You may be better off to box and ship it to the states using the postal service. Surface would be the cheapest method (i think under $100), but will take several weeks to get your package. Air mail is an option for Pachinko, but not Pachislo since they are too large. This method will cost you $150 to $250 US depending on the weight of the machine.

I think all pachinko machines are too big size wise for anything but EMS to the US.

You could always buy them a seat! (get several machines and strap 'em in)

I like the idea of strapping them in and buying a seat! Thanks for your encouragement too. A quick question for compirate - what is EMS exactly? I've not heard of that acronym before. Also, for the rest of you, what are the dimensions and weight of the box you receive when (if?) you get a pachinko via a postal company?

Yes, there's EMS, about 3 days, tracking and insurance available

SAL, a week or two, not available to the US

Slo-Boat (as we lovingly like to call it ), average 6 weeks, no tracking, no insurance, but cheapest way to go (haven't lost anything yet - knock on head)

they do ship SAL to the U.S. if the package is under 2kg.

I just got a large neo geo pro joystick from Japan that was shipped SAL,

I won it the 10th and got it the 27th.
