    Default NEW Glass...

I discovered a local glass cutter that has great prices on glass.

About $5 for 1/8" Pachinko sized glass.

I discovered that the Nishijins are 16x16, and Sanyos are 16x15.5

I dont know if this guy is the cheapest price around, but I'm really happy with the quality.

But here's my question for ya.
Is there any standard sizes for certain machines?
Like are all Nishijins 16x16, and All Sanyos 16x15.5, etc?

It looks like I'm going to be picking up quite a few sheets for friends and family, and i just want to make sure i get it right.

In the vintage world, I have found that just about every machine I restored took a slightly different size piece. Only once did I find two machines that took the same size glass, and both machines were from different vendors. I decided it was a fluke!.

Don't know much about the modern machines, though. Perhaps someone else would know.

I tend to agree with Jeff. In order to be assured of the right size, I always take in the plexi or glass that came with the machine to get an exact match. I haven't had one yet with out glass or plexi.

They look standard, but with glass being a fraction of an inch off would suck!

    Good luck and interesting question!

    Question Re: NEW Glass...

I thought there was a standard size (15 & 15/16" square) for all but some of the the new "big window" machines.

Thank You! Thats great information to know! 15+15/16!

I was just estimating at 16" x 16" for the nishijin. It is a little snug, but It fits.

I have a sanyo comet-ii with no glass. I am guessing 15+1/2, but if anyone can offer me an exact measurement, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks Again

if all else fails make a card board cut out then take it to the shop to get cut.. the nice thing about a cut out is the edges dont have to be perfect

What I did with my Nishijin. Mine came with plexiglass, but I wanted glass so I went to Lowes and got a glass cut for it. I was going to get rid of the plexiglass then I look over my shoulder and seen my kids nintendo Wii. My Nishijin door has 2 slots for glass so I put the plexiglass in the outer slot. It my not stop it compleatly from breaking, If it does it will be contained.

On a couple of my vintages, I noticed that they had a thicker glass (I think 1/8 inch)...then I got a couple that had broken glass and when I went to Home Depot or Lowes, the thickness that they offered was 1/16 inch...a big difference...
I'm not addicted to Pachinkos. I can quit at any time. Did I tell you about the three machines that I have on the way?

    Hey all,

I am also in the market for several 16" x 16" pieces of glass. I also talked to Lowe's and they can cut it to size for $4.90 each.

They call is 'single strength' glass, which is fine since the original glass seemed to be single strength as well.

However, as the above poster mentioned, I am not sure at the thickness difference.

I figure, i could put a small shim of paper or wood in the side of the glass track(s) and that would keep the glass from moving around in the frame at all even if it was thinner.

I want to replace the glass on a modern Daido (with the 2 glass tracks) as well as a Vintage Sankyo (also with 2 glass tracks).

I'm glad to find that this will be an inexpensive fix!

    I'll keep you posted,

    Matt!

I used the Glass from Lowes on the inner track and a plexiglass in the outer track. They work great for me.

take measurements, or use the cardboard template idea.

I am still fighting with a piece of acrylic that is "just" too wide for a single shot nishiijin. the sheet came from a single shot ginza. I shaved off 1/8 with a rotozip, but it still is too wide... tools are in berkeley, machine is in salinas...

I broke one sheet that johnny got made for me, forcing it into a single shot maruhon...

weather stripping was installed, by the guy who refurbished, on my 60's ginza to keep the acrylic from rattling. I have used a small piece of chopstick or cardboard on others to shim just a tad.

    Mud,

Have you tried rotating that piece that is a tad bit too wide? it may fit perfectly the other way (as it does in my Vintage Sankyo...)

    It's worth a shot...or two...or three...haha.

If that doesn't work, there's no reason that some more grinding off with your tool won't fix the problem for good!

    Let us know,

    Matt!

Well it happend!! Kids moved my 6 foot level, Slid down the table and CRASH. There goes the glass on my pachinko game. Glad I had the plexiglass on the outer track and the glass on the inner track. The glass broke, but at least it was contained and a lot easier to clean up.
