    Smile Pinball 2000

    At last!!

Yes finally we have managed to acquire a pinball

After much longing, researching, and youtube video watching, not to mention the dvd 'TILT', we were instantly drawn to Pinball 2000

After reading about Eddie's Revenge from Mars, we started on a mission to find one, but the right RFM for us has yet to be found, (still looking!!)

So being Star Wars fans anyway, it was a no-brainer to go for the other P2K title Star Wars Episode 1 which I found for sale whilst looking for the RFM

This SWE1 was a couple of hours away, so who else but a Wookie could be sent on such an important mission??

So off the Wookie was dispatched along with one of my Ewoks(my daughter) to safely transport this rare pinball back home

It was a major dismantling job and a lot of re-shuffling to get all the parts packed into the back of the estate car, but we didn't want to trust a courier for this delicate job

After an Anxious 2+ hours drive home, (the special mirror coated glass is rare and easily breakable) we set to putting it all back together again

Luckily the Wookie is very good at that sort of thing and managed to do it all mostly by himself, although we did need to borrow a neighbour to lift the heavy top box containing the monitor, into place

The great thing about the PB2K is that they were designed to be modular, in that the playfields easily slip back into place, the idea being that owners could buy other playfields and swap them into the specially designed cab, bit like cell swapping I suppose

And so the Pinball was easily put back together and powered up and all was well

The whole family spent the rest of that evening putting it through it's paces, and we were all amazed at the way the game played, I couldn't persuade the children to go to bed till past 10pm

    WOW!! it really was amazing!!

Before buying it, we had read many conflicting reviews of the Pinball 2000 system and not having had a chance to play it prior to purchase, I suppose it was a risk, but being Star Wars fans and being used to the blend of Video and Silver balls in pachinko, I knew we would enjoy it

But WOW!! I cannot find a better word to describe the experience, it certainly super exceeded my expectations...

    It totally rocks!!

    Thanks Eddie!!

I believe that is the repair guide that you gave me a link to recently

Some really great stuff in there, I actually printed it all off yesterday, it runs to 82 pages I think it was

I have just purchased a spare complete set of Plastics NOS from the US, as none available over here that I could find, always handy to have spares , just in case

Would be interested in finding out about any other NOS spares available, didn't realise there were still some Playfield kits around,

I was lucky enough to score my SWE1 and RFM together albeit 1300 mi from home. Although I prefer the game play on the RFM, the Star Wars is still a very fun machine and is great for both: theme and the "Ewoks".

Both of my machines were supposed to have been shopped but I found numerous broken and cracked rubbers as well as broken and maladjusted micro switches. My machines were also very dirty and desperately needed to be cleaned. The built in service and diagnostic menus were very helpful. Both machines came with the original Bios codes but were easy to upgrade to the latest factory versions. Before the upgrade to SWE1, Jar Jar used to hold a locked ball, even after the game had ended.

Although there are numerous NOS parts available, I think I snagged the last replacement glass that I could locate in North America, from "Marcos".

How is the picture quality of your monitor? Mine is an original and is a little dark, even after adjustment, but is still very playable.

Well earlier this evening things were not going too well with the SWE1

During a game, we suddenly lost the red colour!! Then it tried to tell us that every fuse had blown!!

Shortly afterwards it did some sort of clever reset and all the fuses were fine and diagnostic tests were all showing OK, however we still had no red colour

I almost cried, but instead I googled, I paged, I posted, but in the end we actually managed to solve the problem ourselves

We decided to start at the computer end and test the cable, the connectors, plugs etc

Eventually we located the problem, it was a bent pin on the VGA cable that had bent so much it was actually contacting the plug casing and causing a short!!

After some careful rebending of the pin, I am pleased, no Ecstatic!! to report that we now have RED!!

and all is well in the dining room in a seaside town in a country far far away...

I bought my SWE1 about a month ago and really enjoy it. The lightsaber did not work but I was able to figure it out and fix it based on the repair guide (link in the first couple of posts).

Last weekend I found an RFM playfield, translight, ROMS and shooter button so I picked that up (Williams never made a conversion kit to go from SW to RFM so this was a good find). I hate to admit that I like the gameplay on the RFM more than SW (I am a huge SW nut so this is hard to admit) but both machines are a lot of fun. I also love being able to swap them back and forth when I need a change.

Also, check out www.bigguyspinball.com as they have created an emulator for the software which allows much easier swapping of playfieds as well as no more worries about the Prism card dying. That was a concern of mine since some of those parts are impossible to find.

Sounds like you are having a blast with the machine, I am too!! Now I can't wait for the new Star Wars Pachinko to arrive, should be here in about 2 weeks!!
