Default Getting Nowhere Fast on resetting.

I freely admit to being slow on the uptake. This will be long but trying to explain everything that is happening. When I turn on machine, nothing happens except some lights on. I disconnect the cable from the top of the power supply box which goes to lower left of circuit board at top of machine, see picture cable shown, power off of course, and then reattach it, I get music, a voice saying score unit and Code E-8. Will not except coins at this point. If I push in both buttons ( picture both buttons), the coin acceptor will work and give credits and the voice and music stops. However, if I push on any other buttons on the front of the machine nothing happens but the led lights on the main circuit board do light up, a different one for each button. It does increase credits and the lights to the left of the reels light up and the bottom one on the right does as well (picture right side light).
Stupid question time: only have about 50 tokens in it so does this possibly have anything to do with it? Does the fact that the wires going to the hopper are disconnected have anything to do with it? Could someone also walk me through the reset for this machine? Everything I have tried has not worked.

It has been cleaned up and gone over since these pictures were taken!!

    Thanks so much everyone.

That might have something to do with it. A hopper needs to be hooked up or you will get errors .

Reread that and it made sense to me at the time but I am taking about the bucket in the back right of the game. Not the payout hopper. The hopper I referenced has two leads going down to it but not touching. I assume that once full of tokens, the circuit is closed and a message sent that it is full. For that reason, I did not see a reason to reattach the wires to it which come from the right side of the reels.

yes, thats the overflow sensor. If the circut closes you would see a full error (FH or EF something like that)
normaly I would say follow the steps and do a full reset but I don't think thats your problem. Sounds almost like a button is stuck or dirty button sensors.

Silly question #9, should the button for 1 token play and Max token buttons push in? They do not and I was wondering if they should. Could be stuck/dirty and I will need to clean them I suppose. Any advice on this or site which explains it?

    Thanks

Max credit button is free now but 1 credit button is not. I just used a razor knife to pry up button but there has to be a better way.

clean the buttons with windex on a paper towel .Do not spray it directly in the buttons ...push the button in then wipe the inside edges of the buttons that should allow it to move freely .
