Default Humm through speakers when at idle?

    Hi All!
I just got a Sammy "Daimaou" machine and it has a buzz or humm that comes out of the speakers at idle..Any thoughts??
I got it at a local marc's store so they know nothing about it.
    Thanks

I have never had a Sammy, but I believe it is a common problem with that Manufacture.

Yup, it's the famous "Sammy Squeal". Sammy machines need volume control devices added to bring that noise to a minimum.

Most of use have been using 15watt 8ohm L-Pads with no problems.

Best source seems to be Partsexpress.com at only $4.25 ea.

    Hey thanks for the info!!
That should work great and not load down the amp output!!
Is that an inductor? or a resistor??
Does it get wired in series or parallel with the speaker??

I don't know enough about that, but I would guess a resistor.

Might check this thread here: http://www.pachitalk.com/phpBB2/view...highlight=lpad

If you do a search on our site for "L-Pad" you will probably find a bunch.

Gee and I always thought the sammy machines hummed cuz they just didn't know the words. :smt003 :smt104 :smt003

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.

Many of the Sammy machines use peizo speakers up top. They are reported to not work well with L-pads. If you want to use a Pot, then I think the 5K ohm pots are about right. 1K Pots wouldn't go quiet enough for my tastes. The lower speaker on my Sammy is a regular 8 ohm speaker and L-Pads would work fine.

I use a simple 2-resistor setup that directs 80% of the current to the speaker through a parallel resistor without changing the impedance load seen by the amp. This has worked very well for the 4 machines I've done it to. I use parts that are available at most radio shacks and it only costs a few $ per machine.

For the regular 8 ohm speakers, I use a 1/2 watt, 33 ohm resistor in series with the speaker, and a 1-watt, 10 ohm resistor in parallel with the speaker/resistor combination.

It's not complicated, but I need to draw a picture for those who aren't familiar with the terminology.

I'd use a higher wattage resistor in parallel, but 1-watt is what they have at radio shack, and it seems to work fine. It does get warm, but not hot, on the woofer during heavy bass in a bonus round.

On the Peizo's, I've used pots, but I'm planning to experiment with some 2K - 3K ohm resistors in series with the speaker to see if i can come up with a simple, cheap way to bring the the Sammy's volume down to the level that the built-in volume control can give effective adjustment.
