Default What To Start With? (HyperPassion / The Professor)

    Hello Everyone,

Newbie questions to follow - Please be kind!

I have been debating for a few months now about purchasing a modern pachinko machine (or two). I have a limited starting budget and wanted to seek the opinions of others that have modern machines.

I have several vintage machines I'm restoring right now, and I have played them on and off for years, but I have been intrigued by some of the advances. In the space of time when I stored my machine to when I unearthed it, there seems to be a quantum leap of cool advances! I see now that many games feature an LCD display, but don't appear to use the whole playfield. I'm used to the ancient relics that use the whole playfield if you get good with the launcher tension. Does this detract from the "original" game? Are the modern machines more focused on a video game style play?

I see a ton of anime and sci-fi themed games that I really like (out of the price range for now) and look interesing. I also have been poised on the brink of purchasing a machine from ebay; HyperPassion or The Professor because they fell within my alloted toy budget. I have found very little information about them though. Do any of you own these machines?

I question if I should I save and buy a $300-500 (ouch) machine based on a popular theme (I liked the looks of Robocop) or test the waters with somethinng inexpesive enough that if I don't like, it I'm not out a lot?

Thanks for all of your help and input,

I watched Lupin when I wan is High School - Maybe a good theme?
Without having played a modern machine it's a tough call!

I found one of these on ebay again:

What runs through my head when I see your sig!

    YouTube - cowboy bebop opening

I think Lupin would be a great first modern machine. Be sure to check out your local Craigslist ads for good deals that you can pick up, and haggle on the price!

Lupin the 3rd is a fun game, if you like the theme.
And you can't go wrong for that price

Yes, shipping appeared to be very high, about $50 over other vendors - But the price of the machine, for a "interesting" theme appeared low. Hmm? It totals about $250 vs. the other two at about $160. But having played none, I'm not sure. Lupin is certainly nostalgic to me in a way, but not completely a must have by any means.

I keep checking craigslist (that's how I acquired 8 of my ten machines in one swoop), but I only see people that think they've got some sort of machine made of gold - i.e. machines in codition like mine selling for $100 to $250 (what!? silly bay area Californians!).

So, I'm still in a dabate with myself...
I'm still out to find someone that has played or owns these machines. I will also remain patient to see what deal may show up.

    Thanks everyone!

    shock

take your time an keep an eye out on craigs list... i got my vintage modern for a 20 spot

i have had two newstyle machines.. personally i am not a huge fan.. i fell disconnected from the machine due to the shooter.. even my vintage with the electro shooter feels a bit disconnected.. i must say the adolescent felling i get from a vintage is a huge draw.. My dad acquired two vintage machines and a pinball machine when i was but a little sh@t and i used to play it for hours..

but as a side note i have never hit a fever before so im sure that would help to change my mind...

keep your eyes out and something will find its way into your smurf like hands

i will be looking forward to your first post about a modern machine...

do u make your way south ever?? your welcome for a play if u like??

    luck to ya

My first exposure to Lupin was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliff_Hanger_(game)

That was the first game I ever worked at to get to be able to play it on 1 quarter from front to back. That was released in 1983, so I would've been 13 at the time. Prolly 14 when I was playing it at the Arcade.

    Wow, that's a while ago ...

Talking Re: What To Start With? (HyperPassion / The Professor)

I'd say just get one of the cheap ones on ebay and have fun..see if you like it..be the first one here to get one, write a review saying how great it is and make us all jealous!!

If you end up liking modern pachinkos then it probably won't matter if its an odd inexpensive one or an expensive one with a more recognizable theme..you'll probably enjoy them all!!

So it just makes sense to get a cheaper one first, because if you ended up not liking modern ones, you don't want to be stuck with an expensive one you probably wouldn't be able to resell for what you paid for it..

I hope something I said made sense..it always seems to when its still in my head!!

    Hello all,

I'm leaning towards the professor at the moment... It has a full LCD display (new to me) and looks as though it has a whole sub-game thing with extra controls going on. I'm not so thrilled about the half playfield thing, but we'll see. I hope I can understand enough to play, as it looks exclusively (and understandably) Japanese - though with good game design, usually they are understandable even without speaking the language.

The HyperPassion case looks very "clean" and appealing though - and has a full playfield.

Well I hope you enjoy whichever one you get..you could always just get both!!

Not knowing Japanese probably shouldn't hold you back too much, shoot ball, get it in a hole is probably all you'll need to know!!

I always want both or all! I think that's a fundamental part of this hobby.

I found another option and I wanted to ask others if the pricing was inline with reality: James Bond at $189.00 and $90.00 to ship.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/JAMES-BOND-007-PACHINKO-PINBALL-MACHINE-HI-DEFINITION_W0QQitemZ260383225827QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Defaul tDomain_0?hash=item260383225827&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkpar ms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318

It's an appealing prospect as I like the James Bond theme but... It's twice as much as the others. Do any of my PatchiTalk friends own one of these?
