comet II's some up a lot. bird brain just sold parts off of his. he might sell the carcass, if you want. on the nails, look up heavyguitarman's thread. he tries one size, then goes bigger. if you can't find it, I can look in my index.

Thanks for the pointer to heavyguitarman's post, I found it.

Also, the main reason for selecting a Comet II base is that it is so common ... Ideally, what I would love to do is to steal a page from Masamura and create a new Nail Pattern on a New Cell in a Vintage machine.

Doesn't anyone else think it'd be cool as to have a full on custom New Vintage pachinko ? Your pattern, your design, your background image.

Kinda like designing your own car. Frame (cell size), wheels (pachi balls) and engine (Comet II backboard, launcher, trays etc.) are industry standard, but everything else (nail pattern, tulip placement, mechanical triggers to open tulips) is all you.

    That's my eventual .

Deepest apologies to spauldingd. I didn't mean to co-opt your thread about the new machine ... Just felt it would be a great chance for us newbs to pachinko to glean some knowledge from people more in the know.

Much thanks to hanabi, mudfud, MrGneiss, owennewton, takethecastle57 for noticing my posts and most of all to Sid for the forums to post into. Also, a thanks to sharmoni.

No apology necessary. I am learning a lot. The only pachinko experience I had before getting my machine last week was about 30 years ago playing at a friends house. With any luck, the mailman will deliver some balls tomorrow and I can see if this machine lives again.

So whats the word? Bring back any cool old memories?

Nice machine, just curious as to how it's working out for you.

    Peace Greg

1000 balls arrived in the mail today. The old girl plays just great. After playing for about 10 minutes we had a bit of a plug-up when we found a screw had somehow gotten into the ball chute, but after clearing that out, it plays just fine. My 9-year-old has been helping me clean and fix up the machine and I don't know if he could have waited another day for the balls to arrive. He played it for at least 3 hours before we could get him to go to bed.

The first time I heard the first jackpot it brought back some good memories of playing the machine at my friends house back in the late 70's.

Lots of smiles for very little money so far! The balls cost almost as much as the machine so I've only got $75 invested and a bit of my time.

Oh yeah, that jackpot sound! You just can beat it!

You know, they sound better as a 'duet' and while a quartet of jackpot bells are impressive, it's when you get a whole orchastra of bells that it really becomes...

You can purchase "Pachinko Pliers" from ebay for $9 (+ $2 shipping)

Pachinko Nail Pliers - eBay (item 230332602822 end time Mar-28-09 15:48:55 PDT)

They are notched in the right area so that you can safely bend the brass nails without damaging the head. I ordered a pair this week for a restoration project. I plan to line the inside of the pliers with thin felt so that the neck of the nails won't get scratched when I apply pressure.

    Good luck!
