Here are the pictures covering the modernization of the hopper fill light fixture. I will move the hopper fill light to just above this fixture and replace it with a slow flashing bright red LED (like a car alarm) - This fixture will now become part of the machines light show. I ordered a circuit board that would fit directly behind the fixture.

    The board has installed three sets of LED's for light effects;

One 5mm (lager) multi-color flashing LED mounted center that will light the whole center section.

Three 5mm (lager, center of clusters) Blue / Green alternating LEDs, one behind each hexagon lighting the entire 6 sections (yes, the green and blue show through the yellow lenses perfectly... Its' actually a really eerie effect).

Ten yellow and ten green 3mm (smaller clusters) LED's alternating 3y / 3g in each hexagon and 1y / 1g center section, top and bottom. The 3mm LED's are mounted closer to the fixture lenses, lighting each "slice" yellow or green. The yellow and green will run in a ten step chase pattern (one green on, and one yellow on, per step) rounding each hexagon, following each other .

I must have been thinking of beer...mmmm...beer. Lager should be replaced with LARGER.

Here is some of the progression on the wiring. I'm using CAT-5 cable again, as I have a ton and it has the appropriate amount of connections; 22 control and 2 ground connections = 3 cables, 8 wires each (like my centerpiece). I am hot gluing the connections in place after soldering for strain relief and insulation. The chase sequence will be tied in with another "win" trigger and the blue / green flashers will tie in with an "idle" trigger, the multi-color single LED will tie in with "tulip open" triggers.

I will post video soon, after I have a chance to test all the connections and wire it into my test controller circuit from the earlier posts / videos (big green / white board with electric spaghetti everywhere).

The work is not as "clean" as I like, but these are prototypes, and I'm also trying to get things completed in a faster time frame so I can move on to a final design for the other machines in better shape.

All of the other machines I have are in better mechanical shape, and I will spend less time restoring damage and functionality and more time adding aesthetics and new features. I picked the machine in the worst shape to start with, knowing that a mistake or loss would only mean more parts for the others and a gain of experience, even with a total disaster. After adding this experience, learning by my mistakes, getting great advice from forum members, and having some successes, the techniques and my ideas are getting better, easier and quicker to execute - I have already thought of new ideas but I have mechanically committed to my original design decisions. I think I can do a better job, and have improved results with the next machine (I still have to talk to Digital1 about some large format printing - There may be some bribery with cold cathode tubes for a "Coke" machine involved).

I like "crumby" old stock machines - that's what started this project! These machines will still maintain their true mechanical operation. Check my earlier post (with Jinx /Halley Berry in the background!) and you will see a Nishijin that's functioning well in stock condition (I'm debating on if it will stay that way) that serves as my break time entertainment and reminder of why I'm working hard on this restoration project.

Don't be scared. I'm not scary... except when I am. Muah, HA, HA ha.

    Thanks Mopar!

    Speaking of scary,
my shipment of surplus electronic experimental junk arrived. I unpacked the items with enthusiasm and vigor. Yes! The space game sound boards arrived - Five units in good condition and packed well - $1ea. Also a host of SAW III figures with digital memo recorders attached $2ea- batteries included!

This will be awesome - I can add sound to my creations!

Is this something you can record anything you want and wire it to the win switch and it plays? I think that might work for the sound of a pouring COKE!

You give me more ideas than I have time to play with.

Yes, it has its own mic and will store the recorded sounds (up to 30 seconds long) in static memory - Even if you remove power for an extended period, the recording will remain. Play back is through a small 1.25in speaker and built in amp. I'm working on the sound recording and playback quality and I will post again soon. The unit uses a single force to ground trigger to start playback.

    Well...

I can't really recommend the "space sound" board. I hooked up a 9v to it at tried triggering the contacts and... basically it makes an obnoxious two tone alarm kinda like; Deelleeelleelleelleelleellee. After messing with all the contacts in different combos and found only the one noise, so In my opinion It's worthless. There were no details on the site about it so I took a chance and lost. I may be able to use a couple of the parts on the board for other things.

Hey shock try looking at some of the cheap ray gun toys. they usually have multiple space noises & run on a low voltage & could easily be adapted to your need. My son has been thru his fair share & they are cheap. Look in the dollar stores or flea markets you will find them.

Already done. The movies arrived a few days ago and were opened and viewed immediately. Great additions to the series as a whole. I am by the way, sorting sound bites.
