Ok , The best way to clean pachinko balls is to get a rock tumbiler with fine walnut shells media and tumble them for a couple of hours then have a mesh screen with holes large enough for the walnut media but not the balls then use a towel or micro fiber cloth and clean them off .

the other way is to lightly soak a micro fiber cloth in alcohol ( No open flames permited) and roll a hand full at a time in it then, with a clean micro fiber cloth roll them dry.

CLR or Dawn in really hot water. swirl around or let soak, then rinse well in hot water and dry by rolling around in a towel.

i usually lay they all out to air dry for awhile afterwards

    Question Re: rusty balls

Lucky ... do they come out as nice as tumbled ones?
Do the balls need to sit in the CLR for an extended period of time?

it all depends on how bad they are, with clr or dawn they will still show the staining if they are really bad, but, it will remove the rust.

a tumbler is the best way to go, but, really bad ones won't come out looking like new.

I had luck with cleaner/polish/wax combo for boats. I put some balls and some polish into an old sock and played with it for a while. Then put them into the other sock to clean off the polish.

I used the rock tumbler on other ones and it worked good too but I put too many in at a time and it opened at the end while running and I had a mess to clean up.

after tumbling the balls would you guys recommend waxing them or some other way to protect them from rusting again. I was thinking of a liquid wax like playfeild wax for pinballs?

Wax , Like all other lubricants will deposit residue in EVERY nook and Cranny of the machine . The balls are HEAVY chrome plated . When the chrome wears off I.E. dirt saw dust ect Will wear down the plating .

hey. remember the guy that said I needed a "parlor frame" for my pachinko? well, when I was emailing him, he said that he'd ship without the balls, that it would be lighter that way and he'd find something to do with the balls... like what, I wondered? they don't even have a hole to use 'em as a fishing sinker. and, why would I want a pachinko without balls?

anyhow, he was a nice guy and honest buyer and I got a good pachinko out of the deal. the thought of throwing away rusty balls just reminded me of him :

I agree with Takethecastle57...those Miracle Cloths work wonders. I've been using them since the '70's when they 1st came out. I used one the other night on one of my pachi's. I saw on their site though that they cost about 9 bucks each. I just got some a month or so on eBay for about two bucks apiece. I just looked and they're still on there. These things work as good as Brasso without the mess involved with Brasso. I highly reccomend them.

I ordered one from ebay this morning to try out. Thanks to everyone for the strong recommendations! This is just one of the things I really like about PachiTalk - you can learn quickly what works and what doesn't so that you save yourself the time, agony and expense of experimenting on your own.
