Thumbs up My Ball Lifter Design - Video

Here is a 3d model of my design for a Ball Lifter mechanism that could be used in Pachinko machines.

For the builders among you - you can use my idea freely as long as once completed you will send me one for free...

    Enjoy...

You have to constrain the balls in the lift screw or they'll just roll to the bottom. The Bandai Spacewarp series of Roller Coaster construction kits used the same mechanism in their ball lift towers: YouTube - Spacewarp 5000 Marble Roller Coaster Set. The balls are held in place by the vertical poles so the the screw lifts them up. I still have one of those kits. Hours of fun.

Not necessarily - if the rotation speed of the screw will be faster than the rolling of the marbles - it will be enough.

(I designed the model using Reactor physics engine of 3DS Max so the simulation is pretty accurate and should work in reality...)

Still the pole solution is nice and its nice to know it exists in reality...

I found some one that might make ball lifter for us. Here is his sights.

I rote to him asking for his help in making something that could help us. He rote back to me telling me what he neads. Here is the email that he sent me, Can you help him with what he neads?

    Hi Floyd,
As you might have guessed, I have been approached before to make a lift for pachiniko machines. I do have a machinist, but he needs plans. I don't really have the time to branch out into something that would require a bit of time to get right, let alone build from scratch. If I ever get some time to myself I may pursue this, but at this time, It's just me building RBS.

Thanks for thinking of me, and I will keep this in the back of my mind. If I had one to look at, or some sort of plans then I could proceed no problem. But I just don't have the time to reverse engineer from pictures... : )

    Best regards,
    -Matt

It appear that the balls are held in place with a Plexi tube in his video IF not thats the way to go.

yes, the rolling down the spiral is the hitch that I've been thinking about for months now. I did buy some 36 inch long springs already, with the idea that they are a little smaller in gap than the pachinko balls, will trap the balls and the balls will then have to run in a vertical channel on the outside.

otherwise, you have to have a shaft with spines coming out to rotate the spring and trap the balls to keep them from rolling down hill.

I still have the motors, springs, aluminum channel from 6 weeks ago, still haven't started the actual construction part. I have a sense that it will be hard to get things "just right" and not jam. and, in the meantime, i've been reconstructing sanyo II's... but that's almost done and i'll need another project soon...

Not exactly but i have made the same simulation with more balls and a slower rotation of the spring and it still went smoothly - Here it is - mind you no texture this time for time consuming reasons...

YouTube - Ball Lifter mechanism - Many Balls

    P.S

There is a plastic tube and a center poll to prevent the balls from falling down or out of the spring...

The biggest problem I see is making a coil like that. I like the idea though. Perhaps if the coil was inside a square tube with balls being fed to the corners. The corner would keep the ball in place horizontally as the coil moved it vertically. The coil then ends flush with the bottom of a slightly tilted box with a ramp opening. That way, it would safely lift 4 times the balls. All this in clear plexi at the end of the aisle would be entertaining too!

The notched wheel pushing up a tube is still the simplest, cheapest way to go.

A geared down (for power) toothed wheel pushes balls up a square tube.

I've seen parlor units very similar with multiple gears. Some parlors use a belt system - vertical belt pushed against the inner wall of a large square tube. The balls are driven up the wall by the belt. The belt also cleans the balls at the same time.

Here is a video i found of the actual Ball Lifter in action...

    YouTube - ball lifter

I was wondering - does the tube have to filled with balls for the ball lifter to work?

If you put one ball will it do the full circulation or will it stay in the tube until all more balls will fill the tube and push it up the tube?

If someone have a Ball Lifter - will you post more detailed pictures or movies of it at work?

    Thank you all!!!

That's the same idea, but uses a rubber wheel to push the balls. It was designed by a guy in Canada, I believe.

Yes, the tube is filled with balls, as the next ball is pushed in place, it pushes up the column. A spring loaded paw at the bottom of the column keeps the balls from pushing back down when the unit is off.

here's the orange lifter in use on a LOTR machine. pretty nice.

i just ordered one myself, hoping to refill a hopper and source 3 or 4 machines at a time

go to about 4:55 in the video to see the standard orange lifter at work

YouTube - pachinko meet at ttc's part 2

p.s. eventually I will get to my box of springs and motors to see what I can design with the archimedes screw idea. if it works, I will post pix.

here is a couple of pics that might help, there has to be a springloaded floorplate at the entrance to the gear or the balls will not enter the gear. the yellow arrow points to the tab that forces the balls into the tube rather that just cycling back around( it extends into the grove cut in the center of the gear)

nice detail. I have one coming myself and I was curious how they worked. i have to really get my creative energies going to start messing with the springs and motors... probably better approached when I'm at home with access to a small milling machine.
