    Default Quieting Noisy Reels?

Some of the reels on my machines are significantly louder than others and was wondering if anyone has a good method of oiling them. I am reluctant to just go for the WD. Also, if a reel is moved from its original position(line up), do the machines resync themselves after a reset?

    Thanks in advance.

I have used WD-40 (lightly) and the reels resink themself when they start. They are stepper motors.

Some manufacturers reels are also simply louder than others. Yamasa's are very loud and it's just the nature of the beast.

my Yamasa has a resonance issue. The top support 'hums' when the reels spin, i put my thumb on the top cross bar and it was much quieter, if I could use some of the automotive sound deadening sheets it might get quieter, just don't want to pickup a huge sheet/roll for a 1"x 10" strip, just on a hunch.

I use silicone spray. I made the mistake of taking a motor appart once to get at it and couldn't get it working / aligned again - don't know what the secret is. Luckily I was able to buy a replacement from Milt.

The silicone spray works fairly well. Usually I use an electronics cleaner (dissolves grease) that contains a silicone lubricant. I follow that with a dab of some very liquid silicone oil.=, in both ends of the stepper motor. The only difficult part is with some machines getting the reels off is difficult. You must remember too, the orientation of the reel, as it mus go back on teh motor exactly like you took it off (well on those that are synced with the motor, some use an optical sensor on the reel itself so those are likely less critical, though I keep them aligned, just in case, anyway.

It only quiets them down to what they would sound like in a parlour, which is still fairly loud (stepper motors whine because they are moving one step at a time). In a loud parlour you'd never hear it. In a quiet home, my Neo Pharaoh Zetz (Yamasa) can drive me batty - especially if one reel motor sounds like its about to die.

What brand of OIl and spray did you use?
How quiet did the reel that sounded like it was about to die get with the oiling?
There is obviously something up with my right SL reel as the others are basically noiseless and atfer a few minutes of play the reel sound increases
ALOT! If I stop reel 3, the noisey one, first the machine is dead silent.
