Default Super Sea Story Volume Mod

Hi, first time posting. Also, I am new to modern pachinko machines. I just picked up a Super Sea Story - like this one:

    Super Sea Story

I'm trying to figure out how to make it more quiet. I've tried searching the forum ... I've even ordered both mono and stereo L-pads to make the mod.

But I am unable to determine which wires are the speaker wires. I opened up the front of the cabinet and see the physical backs of the speakers, and I see wire bundles attached to the face.

Has anyone performed a volume mod on a Super Sea Story? How should I proceed?

    Thanks for any feedback.

    Welcome to Pachitalk!

Try this thread, it is sort of generic:

    Hello JCalhoun,
    And welcome to this site

I already modified my Super Sea Story with volumecontrols, you will need a solderstation and some thin wiring.

Tomorrow I will take some pictures from my machine and place them here on pachitalk, will explain to you were the speaker wires etc is located and how to do the mod.

    Regards Dragonfly

Thanks. I have all sorts of electronic equipment ... electronics is something of a hobby. But with the sea of unlabeled wires, and the expertise on this forum I figured someone could tell me where to begin. I'll await your description/photos.

    JCalhoun,
Look on the rear, right hand side of your Super Sea Story and you will see a volume control already installed from the factory.
You will either have to cut a small hole in the plastic cover, or you can stick a small screw driver through the cover to turn the volume control.
It may even be marked with yellow paint if you got the machine from Slot-Pachinko!

I had toyed a bit with that control earlier and had convinced myself that is was more of a sound on/off control. But after your post I went back and played with the knob and it is in fact a volume control. Thank you.

It acts in a strange manner though. It seems to control the volume in discreet steps, not as fluid and continuous as you would expect from a real volume control.

But I was able to dial it down to a low enough level that is acceptable now. Again, thanks.

I too have a Super Sea story machine. I am looking for a way to add an L-pad to it but have no idea which wires are for the speakers. Does anyone know if the factory control can be replaced with a conventional pot? If so that would probably be a better fix than L-pads. I do not have the proper equipment anymore to find out.

Here's photos of when I installed the l-pad on my SSS.

First pic - door disassembled. The speakers connect to the boards above them with an orange and a white wire.

Second pic - 34 pin ribbon connector above the volume() control. Pins 31, 32, 33, 34 were verified as the speaker wires.

Third pic - wires spliced in. Pins 31/32 were left speaker +/-, 33/34 right +/-.

Fourth pic - connected to a stereo l-pad, left and right don't matter after all.

    Good luck!

Thanks, it worked perfect. I ended up using cat 5e wire running it through the machine with the other harnesses & out of the cabinet to the L-pad mounted below. My next project will be the extended hopper on top & I have to locate a battle counter somewhere

That's great you were able to get your volume controlled.
