Default Hi, new owner of 2 Nishijin machines

Up until about 2 weeks ago, I had never even seen a Pachinko machine. I didn't even know what one was to be honest.
I spotted these machines on a local classifieds and figured what the heck...

They appear to be from the 70s, and I have placed one at 1974 based on it's ticket numbers and vintagepachino.com's chart.
The other I'm not sure on, as it's missing that sticker/ticket but I'm fairly certain just looking at it that it's from around the same time.

I've already taken most of the pieces off the front for cleaning on this machine. This is the one missing it's sticker/ticket that I can't guage the age on it.

This one's ticket/sticker makes it appear to be from 1974. It say's "Sophia" on the plastic in the back. My camera flash covers the jackpot area, but it's a birds face with the eyes as "Spinners" and the tongue as a through point.

I've been lurking here a bit, and doing as much reading as I can. I only have 6 balls that were found in the machines, but that actually helped me manually figure out how they work as I had to release the balls that fell into winning pockets.
It's fun with 6 balls, I can't wait until the 500 I ordered get here and I'm finished cleaning these up!

Nice looking machines. Now that you've figured out the photo posting process... how about a photo of the rear of the machine?

Here's the pics of the back. One with blue trays matches the machine with the blue front.

Where's the bugs or bug poop? Where's the layers of dust? Where's the marbles and rusted ball bearings? Where's the caked on grease?

If these are photos as you purchased them with only VERY minor cleaning, then you, my new addicted compadre, made and EXCELLANT purchase. I NEVER get ones this clean!

Nice photos and thanks for posting!

You need to see the images hosted on Imageshack, the attached ones don't do the machines justice.
They both have moisture discoloration of the playfield, and all the chrome is rusted (Though not badly).
Cleaning the ball tray etc on the one machine, I had to do each piece in a new sink full of water as they were filthy.

No there's no grease or bugs, but there was a big black spider hiding behind the ball tray that scared the crap out of me when I took it off. One of the only biting variety we have here.

The ball tray I removed is actually cracked about 6" along, and someone had glued another tray piece over it with lots of thick glue, it looked terrible.
I cleaned all the glue off and threw the extra added piece of tray in the garbage, and I'll superglue the tray. Not sure why they did this, the crack is perfect and just needs superglue to look like it never was cracked.

Someone made the frame deeper and covered it with that nasty 70s 1/4" thick wood panel stuff, it looked ugly as all hell and I proceeded to rip it right off.

But yes, what you see in the pictures I have not touched to clean yet, I haven't even so much as dusted them off.

Anyone know how to strip the glaze on the playfield, without damaging the actual art? I want to repaint the art to cover the discoloration.

Unfortunately once a cell is waterstained it is permenant. However, at least on brave soul has reserected a severely damaged cell by stripping, painting and then lacouring over the top. See the following thread:

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/vint...cell-redo.html

I think this type of restoration should be reserved for the 'unrestorable' level of cell. But then again, I have 3 machines with water damage that I have decided to settle and live with.

I just finished taking an SOS pad (Steel wool pad for cleaning pots and pans, I don't know if they have them where some of you are) to the chrome door frame and the lower door, and they look purdy now! No need to any chrome painting or having them re-chromed.

I'm not sure yet if I'm going to paint the front of the cabinet, it's in pretty decent shape though it has some gouges in it at corners.
Do you think wood putty would stand out too much, even after a few coats of blonde stain?

I'm guessing this one is the "A" model. It's nice and clean now and no more rust! Nice clean and shiny rails the ball travels on, and the plastic is all cleaned up.
Still need glass for it, there was only a single sheet of plexi that was pretty rough in there. It does the job, but it's an eyesore.

Those are beauties! You made a great purchase! May i ask how much you paid?

As far as clean up of the chrome goes, MudFud taught me the benefits of #00 Steel Wool, Available at orchard supply hardware. Works Excellent!

Mudfud also had some metal cleaner that i used... Really brought out the shine!

I'm going to go clean my pachinkos and hope they turn out to look as good as yours!

I paid $120 CAD for the pair, so about $47.50 USD each.

I wish, the only other one within driving distance I've found for sale, the owner is asking $100 CAD for it. Thinks it's a "Nice decoration" and doesn't think it works...must also do cheap drugs too.

I might shoot him off an email, telling him to get ahold of me when he gets bored of looking at it or he wants the space back, I'll give him $40 for it.

I only know of 1 other machine within driving distance of me, and trust me I've been looking already.
Seller wants $100 for it, no way I'd pay that much. Advertised as a "not working, decoration, great coversation piece etc", as they think it requires power.
I may send them an email telling them I'll give them $40 for it when they get sick of it taking up space.
