in the late 50's my buddies and i went to see Al Capones abandoned estate house right on lake michigan.

8 foot chain link fence all around and 6 foot high wooden gates. I think it was right off michigan avenue, we had to run across all the lanes of traffic and climb the fence before the local cops could see us

we followed the road that eventually turned into a trail because of the weeds and brush. his estate was right off the beach, the whole place was stripped of everything that could be removed.

the main floor had large rooms with fancy artwork painted on all the walls with arches for doorways between rooms. there was a large indoor pool with a view of the lake and a fountain built into one wall.

the floor below was more like a basement and was all very small rooms, I would guess they were used for ladies of the night entertaining

the building had a flat roof and we got up there also to look around. there were a bunch of other kids around, most partying with beer or couples making out

it was a neat evening exploring everything around there, years later i read in the paper that they tore it down to build a hotel
