Default A steel at half the price!

This shows you how the economy is going...I bought this for restoration for our business C&A Slots, I did a best offer for less than half of what it is worth, and won!

    Wow!

That's a cool looking machine. Can you tell us a little about it? Age, history, restored value and, if your willing, what you paid for it?

Are these types of machines difficult to restore?

    Thanks in advance.

That machine looks really cool and would be very interesting to 'tear apart' and see how it functions!

    'Half what it's worth'
Are you sure that's not it's worth now? Worth is whatever someone's willing to pay. You can say a used napkin is worth $1,000, but if no one's gonna buy it, is it really worth that?

Yes, I realize that's no used napkin and glad you got the great deal! It surely is a buyers market now.

It's a Mills 1930's machine. It's commonly called a "Bursting Cherry" but is also known as a "Brown front". Value restored in a good economy is about 1500 - 2000. I paid 725.
Restoration is simple, it takes about 5 weeks. Restoration includes restoring all the wood (not replacing), Dissasembly of the mech, cleaning, and rebuilding, and a lot of polishing of the front castings. The castings are aluminum and can be restored to a mirror shine farely easily. after that, painting.

It will be about a year before I get to do the restoration. I am currently restoring a machine for a client, then I have three other machines to work on.

Here are examples of what it will look like when done.

That's pretty cool there Young! Thanks for all the information. I'm assuming it's 100% mechanical so that makes it even more intrugueing for me. I noted that you said 'restoring the wood not replacing it'. That is really interesting to me as it seems each type of antiques/collectible has it's own rules as to the value of the process of restoration.

My dad restores Antique clocks and the rule of thumb there is to make it look and work like it just came off the shelf new. That means cleaning and restoring case as well and the mechanics. Furniture on the other hand should never be 'cleaned and restored' as the patina is what is desirable.

I think when it comes to Pachinko machines, it's best to have as much original as possible but it's the conditon of play cell that most important. Having the original frame and 'all original' mechanics are only a small factor of the overall value.

Maybe I'll find one of these bad boys in barn somewhere that Grandma Jones will sell to me for $10 just to get that "confounded device of ill repute" off her property!

    Thanks again for the insight!
