Default Newbie - Just Got A Machine

Hello, I've just got a machine...The only ID is Nishijin - Shiroi Kamome - Super DX & the date sticker is there but not fully visible, only 239-2 shows...Can anyone shed any light on the year.

    Here's a link to a pic :

    http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...7/Pichinko.jpg

I've given it a quick clean over but now need to start taking it apart to clean the chrome and inside...Is there any advice on how it all comes apart beyond the trim screws ?

I'll need to get balls for it and will need to get some power hooked up.

I'm based in the UK near Heathrow/London, are there any dealers nearby that might be useful ?

    Thanks

Wow you are incredibly lucky to get a Vintage in England!!

Congrats it looks a really interesting Pachi, are they characters with Umbrellas / parasols in the centre and also cars??

If you could post pics of the back of the machine too, it should assist members in offering you the correct advice

    Welcome to PachiTalk!!

    Welcome!

Please upload photos here. By doing so, the photos show up in an easy to access format with having to load extra screens nor leaving PachiTalk. Also, my company firewall blocks Photobuck, Flikr, etc. but not PachiTalk (yet).

With photos, you'll get some great help! I've recently restored two machines... well.. still working on them actually... so with some photos on here, I'll be able to help quicker!

Thanks again and welcome to the addiction! (hmmm... sounds llike a song)

Thanks...Yes. the characters are six cars on top and two umbrellas with legs and feet sticking out the bottom.

    Here's a pic of the back http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...chinkoBack.jpg

There's a bent rod/lever on the lower left that's pointing outwards that looks a bit suspect?

    Thanks Tommy,

also if you do ever want to add pics to any of your posts, you can do so easily by clicking the 'go advanced' button at the bottom of the posting box, which opens another box

and then clicking the little 'paperclip' icon (along the top), this will allow you to upload your pics from your computer

    Hey Tommy,

Believe it or not, but I just purchase two machines that have the identical mechanics as yours does. One I partially disassembled and put back togther and the other i completely pulled it apart and cleaned it all. Since I did the first partial I had more confidence on the second. I'm sure that not only can I help you but I could even provide a photos of things as they should be.

I can't see the 'bent pin' you are speaking of so if you can get a close up photo, I'm sure myself or someone else will chime in.

Here's a neat thing about that machine you have. You will see there are five (5) white plastic circular clips on the main mechanical component. Two at the top, one in the center close to the top and two down below. If you squeeze in the two clips on each of the cicular keepers, you can remove the WHOLE mechanical component. From there you can look at it better, work on it easier and clean it much more effeciently.

Good luck and I look forward to more close up photos!

looks like the main tray is missing? maybe make one out of a tupperware or other plastic box that's around? even a cigar box would work if you want to use wood. just needs a hole cut to align with the upper ball track.

i'm guessing it's the same as on a nishijin B. when I make my replacement box, i'll post pix. btw, it's available at vintage pachinko, but expensive ($50)

I leave any other comments to our new nishijin C expert, rusty.

Nice...The mechanical part is off the back as easy as that and ready for cleaning tomorrow...A ball fell out at the same time.

Any tips on getting the front off, I've undone all the screws but nothing wants to give with any ease & don't want to get the hammer out yet!

there's a latch on the right side, as you look at the back, where you lift the rod and unhook the front door latch

Thanks, the door latch part is fine, problem is taking the front chrome trim off & glass out to access to main play area. All the screws are out, the frame is loose but something is still holding it...temptation is to force it out but I'm sure that's not going to be the best route.

Are there any other attachments apart from the screws?

Ignore me, everything is off...I missed the obvious, two latches -one either side!! It must be getting late...I think it's beer time and cleaning tomorrow.

    Hey Tommy,

Could it be that your 'door latch' is not the latch for the front glass we are speaking of? Looking at the rear of the machine, the 'door latch' is on the left, the 'Glass Latch' is on the right (a wire connecting two swivel latches with a ring in the wire).

Also, here's the thing to consider... well.. at least what I consider. When one goes into the 'restoration' of a machine, you need to decide before hand the level of restoration that you want to do. I do what I deem as a 'Presentable Playable Restoration' which in my mind means that the mechanics are cleaned and functioning exactly as it should when it was new. There is also what I call a 'Full Restoration' which means that the machine looks brand spanking new and plays the same. What differentiates between the two is time and cost.

Along this line of thinking, I've never gone to the trouble of pulling off the doors or main front player components and instead just got them to the presentable/playable level. Some others here now have museum quality machines that they can be super proud of and ones that I am jealous of. It all depends upon what you want.

All this leads to my suggestion. First, get the machine to the first level of Presentable Playable Restoration. Then you can enjoy the machine and at the same time pull a piece off here and there and 'restore' it piecemeal. This method will get you more familiar with the machines, give you time to research the process and give you the oppertunity of time that may help you find a 'donor' machine and/or a great deal on other parts.

The down fall of this thought process is that you will tend to find (or should I say seek out) other machines so that none never really get to that Full Restoration level. But you will end of up 6 ... or more... like I did.

Has anyone mentioned how addicting this can me?

    Good luck!

Sounds like very good advice, at the moment getting the front off and starting to remove years of dirt is a challenge but it's cleaning up nicely...I'll see what really needs cleaning or replacing as I go but will look more to clean & playable. In getting clear I've got full access to date stickers, There's PAT/NYK/3 Circle symbols but the only number on there is 54, i the facing itself has 53-51 printed at the bottom.

Sounds like it was put into service somewhere around 1976 or 1977.
