    Smile Direct tv rate hike.

I've had direct tv suspended for 6 months to see if i could live without it and i can

I finally called them monday to cancel altogether. i got directed around to 3 or 4 people and near the end i was offer $5.00 off a month for a year, free tivo for a year and a $50.00 credit. all i had to do was agree for 12 more months service. it took a good 15 mins to cancel the service.

I didn't take their deal and today i get am email saying all their package rates and any other options are going up in price in march.
I didn't think my cancelling service would effect them that much

of course Circuitcity announced they were closing all stores right after i bought my new hd tv from Bestbuy

i have dish network and i suppose they will also have a rate increase in the near future.not a good thing, when half the time when channel surfing, there is absolutely nothing worth watching.also,i did without dish network for a year, and never really missed it.watched dvd's instead.i still do not know why i reinstated their service.

I've had DirecTV since you needed to buy the dish for around $900 or $1200 when it first came out. I just recently made the switch to Dish Network because of all the things they offered into the deal. I now have 6 rooms with satellite and I don't pay $5.00 a month per extra box, DVR(with no monthly service charge for usage) capable in the rooms that count and I pay a penny a year for several movie channels. I'm sure when they are done nickel and diming me to death, I'll switch to whoever offers the better deal.

I just wish that they would offer more channels in HD now. It's sad that everything isn't already in HD, just broadcast stations and a couple of cable channels. You would think that there would be more available without having to spend $20 - $40 a month more just to get a couple extra channels in HD.

Although my two oldest sons claim they are deprived, my wife and I have never had cable or satellite. We do rent DVDs once in a while. We get excellent reception with our 'rabbit ears' and I just recently got a HDTV - Wow! We're not even tempted to get cable or satellite! But who needs TV with pachis? Just kidding!

I use cable and the only reason I do so is that I get fast internet access through it. I use Vonage for a my phone service so I've diconnected the phone lines from my home all together.

My cable company is Charter Communications and I think I pay too much for 'Extended Basic' and Internet - about $105 a month. If I could find a cheaper internet service that was just as fast I'd drop the cable all together. I've lived with out cable TV and I wouldn't miss it if I could save the cash! (This from a guy who has 5 TV's in his house!)

    Just my two cents worth.

i tried charter a few years ago.the internet was excellent, but the cable tv had a less than acceptable picture.and to think that cable tv is their main business.2 months went by with various technicians trying to fix the tv part.but they all failed to fix the fuzzy picture,so i cancelled it. and now i remember,i reactivated dish network after that, because they always had excellent reception.

I have the Dish Network everything pack with two HD DVRs, and two regular HD receivers. I pay $160.00 a month, and get all of the movie, sports, and HD channels. The only thing I don't get are the skin channels and PPV. I see new HD channels pop up all the time. I use Comcast for my Internet which is another $73 a month. I had Comcast digital cable for about a year, and dumped it because it was over priced, and almost half of the channels were still analog.

at least with a dish you can get the NFL network free. cable wants me to pay for it. after working for a cable company years ago, i found out half the reason they hike the rates is the tv networks raise their prices for cable to carry them. the networks need more money because we need to pay these actors millions of dollars to live in a world of make believe.. so needless to say i dont watch much tv anymore..

I've been using my small outdoor antenna for HD and regular tv for well over a year now, I've saved over a thousand dollars already and am very happy with the selection of local channels I get

I don't get CBS channels, but can download any shows I want to watch off the net

more people are doing the same now!!

They can all hike themselves right out of business for all I care. This Month I'm celebrating two really great changes in my life! Last year at this time I quit smoking and cancelled my cable T.V. I can honestly say I don't miss either one and the extra money that I have to play with is incredible. I just had the basic package and still paid almost $70.00 monthly. If I had a household consisting of at least four our five I might be able to rationalize the expense? But there are a lot of other ways to entertain yourself with the extra income.
