Default need piece from comet II jackpot mechanism

well. after cleaning off the grime, dishwashering and reassembling, it looks like i'm missing a couple pieces off the jackpot mechanism of one of the machines.

I may try to craft one out of wood/plastic and metal, but it would be easier if someone had a spare lying around.

kinda afraid to ask bill what the price would be.

it's the small white plastic piece that pivots and contacts the hammer in the back. also the pivot arm is missing, but that one's not as hard to make.

I realized that this comet is a II L with the jackpot off to the left.

does anyone have a picture of the back of this machine? I looked through the archives and the vintage pachinko pictures, and I think this one is a bit unusual.

trying to figure out what i need to recreate.

    thanks

Can you give a close up of the piece you are missing? I don't have one but curious about the possiblity of making one.

See the thread below. I purchased a Sankyo vintage with a broken JackPot mechanism and fashioned one out of wood.

hey rusty. that's my problem. I don't know WHAT i'm missing (that sounds a bit odd, eh?).

here's my homegrown solution below. took the small plastic linkage and the little crab arm off another comet jackpot. bent it to 90 degrees. soldered a piece of aluminum that clipped my new pair of socks together, and IT WORKS!

even bill at vintage pachiko hadn't seen this setup.

maybe it was a short run? seems like a waste to re-engineer all the tracks and levers, though, for a large plastic cup with channels in it. maybe this was a transition model, too? some of the cut plastic looks like a hacker like me did it!

although the face is a bit of a mess, I decided to try to restore it b/c the mechanicals were unusual... I'm probably going to own 100 machines if I keep collecting b/c "the mechanicals were different"

compirate - has anyone here done resin casting? I bought some casting stuff at the crafts store to try to reproduce the slide handle on my nishijin B. tap plastics has a bunch of options, too. I may check those out when I go searching for clear resin.

on second thought, maybe we should buy one of those plastic cutting 3D "printers" they're coming out with. we could have a whole library of vintage parts, then just cut 'em out of a chunk of acrylic or delrin as needed.

Wow, that is a unique set up! I certainly agree with you that until you know a particular machine isn't 'rare' then to me it's work keeping and improving if possible. Once we get a database of these vintages online, it will be interesting to see who all has the same machines, which ones are rare and how the machines changed over the years.

    Keep up the good work!

If you don't want to give resin casting a try(there is a link somewhere on this site from a guy that actually will resin cast a part...can't remember who, sorry).

There is another alternative. The part you made looks pretty simple to reproduce with a Dremel tool. Pick up a white plastic cutting board from the housewares dept of your local hardware store. Rough cut the shape and refine it with a dremel tool.

yes, I thought about trying to carve a piece out of delrin, but it's pretty small and has this bump detail that articulates with the crab claw thing. I thought maybe milling a piece out of aluminum or brass would work, too.

until I decide to renovate the "parts" machine, i'm good. then i'll be casting and pouring all kinds of things that I swiped.

at least the $25 parts machine gave me a spring, a track cover, part of the jackpot mechanism, the clear, round payout lever cover, a bottom tray overflow linkage and a threaded bolt. there are two trackways that I might swap over to the lemur machine, too, where they're cracked. would have cost me at least $125 to buy all these parts.

only thing is that the parts machine has a nice face...
