Red face 20V Solenoids on Powerflash

The powerflash-flush has some 20v solenoids inside of it.

Has anyone tried wiring them up to two 9v batteries in series, or maybe two 12v lantern batteries?

I dont know how much current the solenoids draw, but it appears that they draw power ONLY when actually in use.

Any words of wisdom before i re-wire?

    Thanks!

I think that going with 9 volt batteries is not going to last for long. solenoids take a pretty large current to activate.

if the capacity of a 9 volt is about 300 mAh, then this is 300 x 3600 = 1,080,000 mA seconds. each draw of the solenoids might be 1000 mA x 1 second x 2 solenoids, so you would get around 540 activations. hitting 2 tulip activations every minute would give you 270 minutes, or about 4 hours. and, this is not using the 9v for anything else like lights.

didn't the powerflash come with a transformer? there were 2 taps on mine: one at 10vac and one at 24 vac

the lantern batteries would work, but why not use a transformer or AC/DC adapter? some of the laptop charging adapters put out 24 volts. I know the macintosh powerbook ones do.

wish i understood half of this???

trying to understand my Arepachi I stopped at radio shack yesterday... they are selling a 24volt transformer for 10 to 12 dollars..

stop by and take a look

I really like the idea of using a laptop power supply. I am staring at one right now that provides 5v and 19.5v. Thats will be perfect. Thats a great Clean, Regulated voltage source, and best of all, it comes in a nice plastic case.

I dont like the transformer that is in my machine right now. It is a straight ac to ac transformer, but it has a little rust, and an extra wire that stripped bare and hanging there un-used. Probably a earth/frame ground... but who knows?
The exterior of the supply is rusty, so the enamel coated wires (inside) are probably not in the best of conditions.

    Thanks again!
