Default Poll - What affect does Pachitalk have on pachislo prices?

I saw the first Sinbad pachislo show up on eBay. There was a time that, since it was the first one, no one would have known what it was, and it might have sold for a reasonable price. Within minutes that auction was being talked about on pachitalk. That prompted me to post this poll.

I would say that even at 400+ members we are driving up the prices on the quality machines and down on the also rans. In some ways we are shooting ourselves in the foot by touting a great model but we also want the importers to bring in the great models and if they can sell them for more they'll work harder at getting them to us.

I'm still thinking a pachitalk auction site for pachinko's and pachislo's is a great idea. I wonder if we could really pull it off?

The trick to making a pachitalk auction site work is that it has to be a better deal than eBay for both buyers and sellers. If prices are always lower (great for us) sellers would go back to eBay. If prices are always higher (great for the sellers) the buyers would go back to eBay looking for bargains.

As I see it the sweet spot is the 8% (or what ever it is) commission that eBay takes. As long as prices here end about 5 to 10% lower than on eBay both buyers and sellers come out ahead and only eBay loses.

The house would have to have a smaller cut then ebay is taking no doubt, but the house wouldn't require a big piece of the pie and it could be a win/win for both buyer and seller! 8-)

If we did this, there would be no quesiton as to whether we influence prices...

In away you could do now.

You post a machine forsale at $100 plus shipping having it end at date & time. saying also this will not sell for less than $60.00
Tell all about it and pictures.

The buyers could buy it out right ot "post" (not pm) the most they would spend.

Like Member A would pay $60.00 plus shipping in a post

Later Member B would pay $75.00 plus shipping in a post

Later yet Member C would pay $77.00 plus shipping in a post

At the end, buyer and seller to their thing, it would be based on a trust system

I don't think there would be away to snip

This was how Ebay started way back last centery, no auction format just a board posting.

Of course you mean just host an auction system like ebay where people could sell their machines. Not Pachitalk selling machines right?

Did you notice that right after Pachitalk started the prices on pachislos started to go up? Of course Christmas was coming, but I'm sure that's just a coincidence. :-)

I can get machines wholesale by me. They asked me how many are we talking about? I was thinking well if I was going to get some to sell I would pro bely see about putting them up here not on ebay. ebay sounds like a lot of hassles and there raising there prices don't help. Something like this I think could work.

Well... first off... the poll might as well ask about pachislo AND pachinko. Prices are being affected in both areas. Some good, some bad, IMHO.

We do have the Trading Post here.
Surely any dealers that would like to test the water are welcome to post there, right?

I had good luck selling a handful of pachinko machines there, but I tried to keep the listing current with updates. You can't just post something and let it sit there... gotta bump it with a markdown, or a discussion.

It could be used two ways... on an auction format like Arby said... or "reverse" auction.

In a reverse auction, you start with a higher price if you like... someone may take it. If there's no action in 2 or 3 days, drop the price by 10% or so... and see if someone likes it then. Keep repeating that at 10% of the last price posted until it either sells, or you bottom out and post "last call". Either way, it's got to be kept current... and not just let it sit there.

An auction with prices going up... might cause bad feelings between members in a bidding war. That also will drive prices UP by the nature of the beast.

But the reverse auction is a matter of timing... how can you get mad because someone beat you to the drop? Afterall, you HAD your chance to buy it if you really wanted it that badly! AND this method will move prices downward by it's nature, too.

If that takes off, then look into an auction script. They are out there, and some can do both methods.

I dont think ebay is actually raising prices for the normal seller, I think its just for the ebay stores. I think its still 5% and the change on the closing price.

But as a side note : i am a smarter pachislo shopper and save because of it , you never know i might have ended up with a Million God cat litter box if i did not have the useful feedback from the great Pachitalk members .

id be nice if the time limits were a little flexable not everyone is available all day to bid and with out the sniping tools those of us that work night or 2nd shift would probably be at a disadvantage . i wonder if there is a way to make a flexible clock that starts ticking like 12 hours after the last bid on a machine that would truly work out great ....

Should the theoretical Pachitalk auction be limited to members only and not open to guests? What would be the Pros and Cons?

With membership soon to surpass the 2500 member mark, a 600% increase from a year ago, I believe that this forum and it's very knowledgable members have greatly impacted the pachislo market. Not only on ebay, but private venders as well. Which was very evident in the recent famed Spin Luck auction. I have visited many venders websites where the prices have not been updated in quite some time. And when you call, the price is considerably more.

I want to ask the pioneers of this forum, did you ever think the price of a Spin Luck would ever reach the magnatude that it has. Compared to the price you paid for yours. I believe this is just the beginning. Wait till the next Dragon Dice goes up on the auction block. It has become survival of the fittest(richest) There will always be machines that will always be attainable. But due to the reviews and the comments from us, we have made this a sport of kings.
