Yes that L-shaped piece of plastic did indeed seem to be the culprit, we managed to sort that out last night and it seems to have solved the problem

We even made the top tray get full enough to back up (a few times), so that we could check it would then start to pay them into the bottom tray and it did!!

Thought I would show a pic of the rear of this one and also a pic of the front taken after the cell and tulips had been cleaned up, one pic with the door open (the door has one piece of scratched plexi which we will replace when everything else is shipshape)

However there is still clean-up work to do to the front of the machine

What a fine looking machine, indeed! Is that a custom cabinet/frame around it?

Well that is one of life's mysteries

At some point in it's life, many many years ago I think, a new cabinet / housing was made for this pachinko, it seems well made, using dowels etc. and appears to be made of Oak

I'm thinking the previous owner used this purely as a display piece in his games room, he told me it used to be in a room with a Jukebox and some other stuff

The machine did have a major ball jam and the balls had rusted, so it must have occurred a long time ago, I doubt it's been played recently

If it was wall mounted then it would have had to be removed from the wall every time the hopper was empty and judging by the nails that had been removed from the jackpot areas, this must have paid out all the time!!

At the moment there is just enough room to pop the balls into the hopper whilst it remains portable, In the future we intend to carefully make a hole in the top of the cabinet and make a wooden hopper (same as our wall mount cabinet)

Well I've been hooked on pachinko for the last few years and I love the moderns (9 of them) and now the vintage (1 so far) equally but for different reasons of course, I think they all have something special to offer

I would certainly love another vintage, but it took a long long time to find this one, they really are quite rare here, but I will be keeping a look out

Can't believe it's only been a week since we brought the Sanyo home!!

Anyway, I was happy to see that the nails arrived in the post this afternoon, very quick indeed, many thanks to mudfud (and heavyguitarman too)

I can now hear the distant sound of a hammer!!

Phew!! I just popped down to investigate and the missing nails are now back in their rightful places

(there are still the two broken ones to replace, but will do that another day as we will need to establish what is behind them and they will need careful drilling out)

I attach pic of the playfield, hopefully you can see that the new pins blend in perfectly with the old ones and this will make it much more rewarding to play too

Also attaching a pic of the date sticker, I believe this shows the Pachinko to date from 1976??

Yes I wasn't expecting them to arrive till next week earliest...

The two broken / cut off nails are located just under the 'appollo' rocket one to the left and one to the right of the 2 nails directly under the rocket

I think this may be a tricky place to be drilling them out, but not looked at it in great detail yet

again, due to their position I presume these were deliberately cut off??

    Congrats on your first Vintage!

I am looking forward to your progression as the machine I just picked up is almost exactly like yours - very few differences.

Great find and cannot wait to see further developments!!

not that noticeable, but I can see them now that you specified where to look.

the whole comet II back comes off, I have learned in the last week, so it might not be that hard to nail them through.

if you pull the staples and screws that penetrate the deep plastic to the wood, the whole thing comes loose in one piece, with all the tracks, levers and wires connected.

all that's left attached to the wood are some metal guides for the balls

I almost plunked the whole back into the dishwasher, except it wouldn't fit!

    Congrats on that one!!

It does indeed look similar with the stylised birds on the cell and the Ultura Tulip

I am curious as to what you have there showing between the spinners to either side?? Extra spinners, pockets??

And also your nail arrangement is different in the place where my broken nails are and a couple of other areas too!!

Yesterday we made a visit to a local Maplins store to obtain a few parts needed to install the wiring and lights in the Sanyo

We purchased 2 x 6.5v bulbs and bulb holders (as 9v bulbs are a little hard to come by over here), a 4 cell 6v battery pack, and a piece of copper backed PC board which was used to make the fuse and bulb holders

Instead of using modern day tie-wraps the Wookie (other half) preferred the look of twisting black and red wires together...

He didn't really need to make a fuse holder but again it was his personal preference and it did look neat

The Micro-Switches in the photos are temporary and will be getting replaced with ones of the correct size and torq as the ones previous were too highly sprung to be triggered, also he needed to extend the arm of one of the Micro-Switches for the 'payout'

I'm pleased to report that it is working as it should, the top red segments light up when the hopper is empty and the orange segments flash once on payouts!!

The installation of the wiring / lighting and the replacing of the missing nails has greatly increased the play value of this pachinko

Excellent work!! It sounds like you both have had a lot of fun restoring this machine and overcoming the obstacles encountered. Your machine looks beautiful!!

So what's next? These vintage machine restorations are so interesting and rewarding that I find you cannot stop at just one. Are you searching for your next project yet?

Heck we are always searching!! been searching since joining PT

We look every day for Vintages in England, I guess we got lucky with this one, but still hopeful that another will appear that is reasonable and nearby

There is still some cosmetic work to do on this one and also it would be nice if we could source a lock for it

as far as getting a replacement lock,i think that would be next to impossible.especially if you want a key to go with it.mine was missing the lock also.what i did was replace it with a 1-1/8" barrel lock.they can be found at any hardware store in the U.S .if they are not available in the U.K. you could order one from happ controls.you will need to make some minor modifications to your machine.first,if the lock will not pass through the front of your machine, you will need to take a file after the plastic trim piece on the front of the machine.once the lock fits your machine, you should install a star washer onto the lock before putting the nut on.this will prevent the lock from turning in your machine.these usually come with the lock.you may need to bend the lock cam to fit your machine, and you will need to cut a slot in the frame for the lock to engage in.i did this to my 3 vintages, and it works for me.i mounted mine into a wall cabinet and needed access from the front.while this is not as secure as a factory lock,it is good enough for home use. i attached some pictures of mine.
