    Congratulations on your vintage!

Hmmm, must be in the wind...I too finally joined the vintage owners group with a purchase last week. Probably won't be able to refurbish it for many months, haha, can't believe I bought it for it to just sit there for a while.

Will be nice to follow your restoration progress on it. So many out there have gone through this process, so it's good to know help is just a post away.

    Yes it's today!!

We just got home and are having a quick look, yikes there's a dead spider at the top hopper!!

Anyway, the plastics at the back state Comet II, and this seems to be popular with restorers here, so I'm hoping that one of you could kindly help identify this part??

I am currently trying to look at the backs of other vintages to find out where this part belongs??

It was found in the bag of Pachinko Balls that came with the Pachinko and it seems a couple of the balls are stuck in it or used as bearings??

that piece is used to keep the balls in the track as they roll down the first trackway. otherwise the balls jump on top of each other into 2 layers

interestingly, many spots in my pachinkos use balls as weights

Thank you for that, we did figure that the balls must be weights and I have just found a pic that shows a part like this but the balls in the part are facing the front??

I presume the one in your pic is the correct position, wondering if it makes any difference which way round

This is the pic I found...

There is currently a suspected ball jam behind the centre pocket area and we are currently removing some of the covers, taking pics as we go along of course...

So far the flipper is working correctly, the ball dump is working and the bell has been 'dinging' but we need to check payouts etc

The machine is in need of a good dusting and cleaning but it has been fascinating to watch the mechanisms at the rear before we get down to the real nitty gritty

on mine, the opening to the ball weights is to the back. it has a bit of a cut in the top where the pivot is, so this makes sense to put that curve in the front so that the nail won't stick out. yours looks like the same piece. in the vintage pachinko picture, that ball feeder has a bend in it that ours does not have.

I had some balls jammed up in the levers that connect the tulip wings on the lower side pockets. these were tricky to get out without some tipping and turning.

this machine of mine also had the sticking jackpot seesaw, so I had to add a weight to get it to reset. hopefully, yours doesn't have this problem.

fixed this machine yesterday; update on adding tulips

    have fun!!

Yes the ball jam was in that area and as a result it caused the tulips to not function correctly

Was a bit tricky but we have managed to clear the jam and all seems fine there now, I think a rusty ball was the main culprit in causing the jam

Luckily the seesaw mechanism appears to be working correctly

We have been concentrating on the mechanics today and also some cleaning of the very dirty covers and plastic parts at the rear

So far everything has been simple to sort and fun!!

that part on my machine is mounted with the ball weights to the back, like mudfud's picture.i would have to assume this would be the right way.

There are a couple of areas that require attention on the Pachinko, one of them is that it is missing a few nails

Now the location of these missing nails / pins leads me to believe they were removed in order to get easier jackpots

Not sure if you can see in this pic but there are 2 missing to the left and 2 missing to the right at the top of the Owl in the centre

There are also a few more lower down, 2 under the Apollo rocket and 2 futher down

I am wondering if anyone here has about 10 pachinko nails / pins that I could purchase??

Also you can see in the pic that the bottom Tulip has been removed by us today. It was a bit stiff and didn't seem to always open and close as and when it should

It has now been removed from the playfield very carefully as the screws were a little corroded, cleaned the metal part with 'Silvo' (Duraglit) metal polish and cleaned the plastic parts with a soft duster and some Mr Sheen furniture polish

The metal was also a little bit bent which was probably causing the problem

However all is cleaned and back in shape and looks like it is working fine, not to mention looking a lot better too!!

We have now removed and cleaned another of the tulips, gently removing some light corrosion with the Duraglit polish and hopefully we can give them all some attention in this way

Pics of the cleaned up ones so far...

Nice job on the cleaning and repair of the tulips!! I have yet to remove one during a restoration; I usually just clean them in place using Q-Tips.

You have encouraged me to try!!

Now I can't take credit for removing the tulips, that was my O.H. (with his invaluable new mini 12 in 1 screwdriver) but I did supervise

It also seemed easy and quick to do, the most important thing is to choose the correct screwdriver and NOT force it

The screws to our tulips were corroded and we will be taking one into a merchants in order to purchase replacements of the correct size / type

It is certainly very very rewarding to see how easy it is to really make a difference to these machines with just a little cleaning

    Phew!!

Well the tulips are all back in place temporarily with the old screws, the playfield has cleaned up beautifully

Over the last few hours the rear has been slowly getting dismantled, carefully cleaned up, tested and is now all back together again!!

We did of course take many pics just in case

I'm pleased to report that all the tulips are now working properly!!

Although I have noticed that when it pays out some of the balls come into the top tray and some into the lower tray as part of the same payout??

Shouldn't all the payouts come into the top tray though and only the ones that are returned come into the bottom tray??

Although we will need to look into that maybe tomorrow now as children need feeding...

Payouts go into the lower tray only when the top tray has reached the limit it can hold. If your machine is dropping into both trays ALL the time and not just when the top tray is full (and backed up inside the machine), then I would suspect that something is either blocking the balls from falling correctly or there is a piece missing or broken.

There are two bells each with a different tone. The lower tray bell tone is different to help 'notify' the player that the need to empty the top tray down the lower tray.

Hope this helps and keep up the good work!

See my post sanyo comet empties to bottom. There is an L shaped plastic that needs to rotated so it points to 9:30 catching the nub on the panel deep to it. There's a picture in my post. This directs the balls to top tray until they overflow and push the L over. Have to slip something in before screwing the covers tight to keep the piece in the correct orientation.

Also, we have it easier on the sanyo than some others, as many of the tulips are nailed in, which is much harder to remove.

The nails are in the mail.
