I saw the movie Hunger Games Catching Fire last nite, its over 2 hours long and quite different then the first one. but, it still was excellent. it was more or less the players against the game rather then each other. the ending wasn't what I had expected
    I give it a solid 10

My wife and I went and saw Gravity in 3-D. All I can say is: "WOW!!"

Great movie - go see it while it is still in theaters.

I just watched "the Book Thief" movie, it was well done
the story is about a young girl in Germany before, during and after WW2
she is sent to live with a couple who basically just wants to get some money from the government to take her in.
she can't read or write and steals a book to learn it, it takes awhile, but she finally bonds with her new parents, its a good movie about what life may have been living there during that time period.
it made me glad i wasn't living there in that time period
it had a lot of feel good and sadness mixed thruout!!
it really kept me intrested, I rate it a solid 10

I personally haven't watched it. But many of my friends say that Frozen is really good. It will have to be one of those that I make sure I get once it comes out on DVD.

I saw The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug last nite.

its 2 1/2 hours long, but was pretty good all the way thru.

the dragon is awesome, very good special effects.

I just didn't like being left hanging at the end and having to wait a year to see what happens!!

    I rate is a solid 9

I watched "the Monuments Men" movie today

it was a pretty good period piece. a little goofy in some parts, but. well done.

I liked the M1 carbines being used, but, why would they be using revolvers when 45 automatics were used during WW2??

the movie would have been just as good or better if they had used actors that weren't so well known

Its well worth going to see, I give it an 8.

Okay the Lego Movie was pretty good.

I think this sums it up pretty well.

(that is like the main song throughout the movie.) I will say it was actually very well done and worth the ticket (didn't see it in 3D but not much point.)

I'll give it a 9. As there were some little parts that were lacking.

American Sniper-go see it, libs will whine about it
Birdman-great acting but not for the mainstream movie goer
Imitation Game-go see it, Turin did as much for the war effort as any other single person I can think of yet he's relatively unknown
The Theory of Everything-acting doesn't get any better than this, great story
Wild-pretty good story but not sure why it was made into a movie, plenty of people have overcome obstacles
Foxcatcher-good and bizarre story. I obviously had heard of the DuPont family but didn't know John DuPont was loony.
    Horrible Bosses 2-hilarious and crude
    Exodus-good
    Interstellar-excellent
Guardians of the Galaxy-excellent, best Marvel movie I've seen yet with plenty of humor. All the Marvel movies are entertaining for sure but are getting repetitive.
    Fury-excellent
My girl is a member of the Screen Actors Guild so all movies up for awards are mailed to us or a download code is given so we get movies while and sometimes beofre they're in theaters this time of year. Pretty nice perk.

its been awhile here's a few more movie reviews

The Martian, a well done syfi space adventure with lots of action. left on Mars, Mark Walhburg becomes something like a space McGyver

The Revenant a 2015 new release, fur trappers against Indians with some Frenchmen added, in the cold snowy north the trappers battle the Indians and try to escape to an outpost,

Leonardo DiCaprio really put his heart into this action packed film, eating raw liver, being in the cold and crawling around in the snow. his fight with the bear is long and intense, I don't know how they did that scene?? its over 2 hours long and well worth watching.

and naturally, the new Star Wars movie which is action packed and lives up to the hype

The Martian was amazing! I'd give it a 10 out of 10. Gonna buy that on DVD as soon as it comes out. (January 12 for US folks)

Hoping to go see the new star wars in Imax here soon cause that is suppose to be really good.

    Revenant-excellent
    The Big Short-excellent
Star Wars- entertaining for sure and great battle scenes but I was fairly disappointed. The plot is the same as Star Wars A New Hope. I thought for sure with all the new characters that Abrams would take this into some new, interesting direction. Not quite this is the third Star Wars movie with a death star/planetoid that's also a huge weapon, the same old "shields have to be down" and only a miracle can save us" type thing. For me that was a bummer so hopefully the next one breaks new ground.
    Black Mass-excellent

So this week Mrs Clam and I took a trip to a nearby town to see Kimi no Na wa (Your Name)

    xNPlWgd.jpg

My tutor advised me to see it, plus it has had some good reviews and has beaten Spirited Away for the highest grossing anime movie.
We watched the Japanese version with English subtitles. (Just the way I like my anime)
I think the english dub might lose some of the cultural aspects of language (Just like the english dub of the K'on Movie where they practice speaking english. It just doesn't work )
So I don't want to spoil some of the finer plot details and twists. But due to unknown forces Taki and Mitsuha seem to swap bodies for a day intermittently. Yes it does sound odd. Whist living out the other persons life for the day. They leave each other notes on their cel phones and each one starts to have a positive effect on the others life.

Once Mrs Clam got her head around the story she said it was very good and loved the music in it.
The artwork is top notch as to be expected these days from an anime feature and uses numours different styles during certain points during the film. It also features some nice cultural points and references for those like me who enjoy that sort of thing. Rated 12A in the UK. mostly due to mild sexual references. So Jr stayed at home for this one. Plus he would moan its not in English.
No doubt I'll get the blu ray when it comes out later this year. so a big 5* from me.
Although released in limited cinemas in the US and UK late last year we did find one showing it. My first time to see anime on the big screen. Also for some reason, one of the trailers before the film was for the new Ghost in The Shell movie

    Anyhow heres the trailer
