This issue was FINALLY resolved after letting the game sit for a while. Nothing had worked until recently. It turns out the error was caused by an issue with the hopper. Apparently there was some "crud" in the opto on the underside of the hopper. That was causing the error. After a thorough cleaning of that area and a reset, the game now works fine. Thanks for everyone's input!!
