Question Vintage vs. Modern Pachinko Balls Question

In considering buying new balls for my Vintage Pachinko machine, the responses I got from sellers was that the new balls were identical in size & spec to the Vintage balls. So, I recently purchased about 500
( I say "about 500" b/c that is what I ordered, but the post office felt it neccessary to tear open & inspect the package, hence losing a few in their attempt to keep my town safer from people who might be using Pachinko Balls to construct Weapons of Mass Destruction. They did to thier credit, poorly re-package them along with a generic apology letter for opening my package)
new pachinko balls for my machine to replace the original 350 or so that I still had when I did my refurbish. I haven't used a caliper to measure the new ones, but the old ones are 11mm.
The problem that I am experiencing is upon scoring a jackpot, the weight of the new ball will not always register as enough for the ball to complete it's journey down the chute to trigger a payoff. This didn't seem to be a problem before I switched the balls, the payoff was very consistent after scoring a jackpot.
Am I wrong to think there is a weight differential in the new balls, or is it possible to adjust the payoff arm to be more sensitive?
Maybe something got out of calibration when I mounted my cabinet to the wall and then painted it to match the wall color (also the same time I switched the balls out). Or maybe some of the linkage needs to be re-lubed?
In any event, any help/thoughts on my problem are greatly appreciated.

all but one of my machine's are old vintage style no electonics... well except lights..

have never had a problem with new pachinko balls in an old machine.. im thinking that it might need a little lube or u have it in a bind from mounting it in the case

sounds like your on the right track

if in doubt run the old balls threw and see if thay work.. ill bet your problem is still there even with the old balls

    good luck

I agree with Mopar... I've bought several sets of balls at different times and had some come with the machines I bought. I even had a few 'brass ones' that I received from an especially gracious member here. While I did have one machine that seemed to be finiky (sp?) when it comes to the Jackpot lever working properly, I deduced that it was the upper 'flex' component that was sticking and once I cleaned and lube that part, it hasn't not worked yet.

Maybe you can find something with enough sensetivity to measure the weight of your balls. (I'm already snickering) It would be enteresting to know if your balls are heavier than others. And... do brass balls really carry more mass?

Don't know if the brass carries more mass, but there sure are a lot of folks out there that have them!

The pachinko balls Arby used to have were gold plated, no lettering. Truly beautiful!

I had the same problem on my "Castle" machine. I added a weight to the counter-balance to assist the winning ball in tripping the payout. Problem solved.

Balancing is the best method as lube should never be used.

    Clean components first

Check for anything out of alignment or obstructions

    Balance if necessary.

There is a video of how Spheres are made all are 11 mm of rolled steel and is hardend and than Chrome plated.
Some will have names rolld on them and some will not.
Their are the costly ones that are Real gold plating for special openings

Now there was a seller that was selling ball bearing that was close to 11mm, they were very bad to use.
