Default any way to make a vintage machine catalog?

    hi again.

after reading through all 9 pages of the forum, I reaized there were some great photos of older machines. so, I was wondering if we can set up a vintage museum, sorted by decades, for everyone to upload the front and back picture of their pachinkos.

this would be really helpful for folks trying to recreate some part on the back of an old machine, or trying to date their machine.

I saw the museum in the research center, but this was all the modern machines.

also, we could have a set of links to vintage websites, all in one place.

    is this possible?

Awesome idea!! We should also include an ability for everyone to post information about each machine so that other PachiTalk members can contribute to identifying specific details about each machine, such as model, name, unusual chrarteristics, etc. I know that there are many on this site who know specific tidbits about certain machines that others could really benefit from knowing.

Who knows... with our collective knowledge organized into such a library, this could become the worldwide "go-to" site for everything Pachinko!

That is so funny that you made this post. I was just doing the same thing last night and noticed there were no vintage pachinkos. I think it would be a great idea too. I only have three, but I would be willing.

I agree. I too have been thinking about requesting or building the same on my personal website.

Thumbs up Re: any way to make a vintage machine catalog?

That would be quite an undertaking considering how many different makes and models of vintages there are. Many do not have official translated names and those of the same make may differ from each other only by nail placement and/or cosmetics.

Categorizing by year or model may be difficult, but maybe by manufacturer? It would be very handy for those of us that enjoy restoration. And I for one would greatly appreciate the ability to post or review high resolution photos.

If this is something a mod or admin wishes to take on, how can we help?

    Catagories

    Pre-Masamura
    Masamura Single Shot
    Multi shot conversion
    Fully Automatic

Sub categories could be by manufacturer. I would think it would just be pics, front and back, try to eliminate dups.

shouldn't it be semi-automatic, since automatic is the modern shooters?

could we subcategorize the semi's as strictly mechanical, then those that needed electricity (for the center or the tulips)? i'm guessing the 70's for mechanical, then the 80's are the ones with electrically driven parts?

listed by manufacturer makes sense within the categories.

Single shot conversions are semi-automatic - the won balls still go to the lower 'overflow' tray and have to be hand lifted to the shooter tray.

Fully automatic - the player doesn't have to touch the balls to continuously fire them into the machine other than the initial loading. All paid out balls go into the shooter tray (other than overflow).

I don't know of too many 80's machines that are flipper except maybe some arrepachis. So the 'Vintage' would be any flipper machine, no matter how electronically complex (only 1 or 2 newer than 1980).

I can't say that I've ever seen anything that I could prove was early to mid 80's, late 80's maybe.

I've tried to find such a compilation online, and I'm stunned that one does not exist. This sounds like a lot of fun, and any attempt would likely be a major boost to what currently exists...which apparently is nothing.

    Let's do it!
I'm not addicted to Pachinkos. I can quit at any time. Did I tell you about the three machines that I have on the way?

I think we have to go by manufacturer first and then break it down from there. Nishjin, Sanyo, sankyo, Heiwa, etc I also think that besides the picture of the front and back, we need a close-up picture of the front since we don't know the names of most of them.

I second that motion. Not every visitor or newly addicted vintage owner may understand the generational differences in the configuration or play behavior of their machine. But I'd wager a larger number of them will have picked out the maker's name somewhere on a machine they're researching. Seeing that name in a listing grouped by make first would probably generate more matches of finding other machines like theirs.

This would be nice to request, but a minimal submission might show just the front, top to bottom. From there, unique playfield closeups would be a good turn. Any pictures of the rear of the machine could start the same way with a full shot and then detailed closeups of unique mechanicals.

A space for contacting the owner might be cool in case a searching user has a problem, or vice versa... the owner of a listed problem machine could leave a contact nugget in case another owner finds the listing and has ideas on a fix.

Agreed. Thinking through the process, if I purchased a machine and wanted to research it and find out more about it, I would probably start by looking up the name of the manufacturer. Next I may try to compare either the front features or rear design to see if I can determine the "generation" or vintage. As for determination of the theme, that would be much more difficult since there are so many variations and designs.

Here's my two cents worth. Like the last few comments, I think it would be best to look at this 'research component' from a new owner's point of view. When I found my first one I wanted to find a name, or a year, or who else may have one that could tell me about it. So... here's what I suggest:

Catagories: Single Shot, Multi shot first. Then by maker (with an unknown class)
Photos: 1 of the full front, 1 of the full back and 1 of just the cell. (I think most new owners will want to see what the cell looks like up close.) I like the idea about a photo for unique mechanics as well... but that I think would be second to the cell photo.
Data elements: For each machine a field should be available for: Maker, Game Name, model name / number, expiration year (not translated but actual number (43,48,50, etc.), unique play characteristics, User Id for submitter of photos, User Id(s) of owners of that model

I'm not sure if this level of detail is possible, but thought I'd throw it out there.
