    Default Plastic Chrome Scratches

Has anyone found a product that will "repair" minor scratches in chromed plastic?

Being the plastic is plated with the chrome, no there is not any way I have found, and I have tried all kinds of stuff.

Some very light polishing with plastic polish MIGHT help, but if you polish too much you'll just take the chrome plating off and make it worse than before you tried to fix it.

Most all of the minor scratches in chromed plastic will not come out, because the chrome is so thin, the scratches are thru it. Polishing the chrome, with a good chrome polish like Masters will draw the attention away from them, but they will be there forever, sorry.

There is nothing out here to fill them that I have found.

Don't try a buffer, because you can over heat the chrome and it will buble up and make a worse mess.

Best bet just call it "patena" and go with it.

Wow, I never thought of Decals to cover up blemishes.

VERY GOOD IDEA, I will use it in the future, even an old fath, like me learns stuff on this board.

You could always try to powder coat it.

I've not been brave enough to give this a shot on my own... Maybe if someone has an old parts machine they could try it on that so ruining it wouldn't be so bad.

Tulsa, you think the plastic could handle 375 degrees for cure time ?

Hotcoat Powder Reflective Chrome 8 oz - 50 lbs
Reflective Chrome is the most reflective powder currently available. This coating is superior to (10169) in reflectivity and image clarity. This polyester powder cures in 20 minutes (after flow-out) at 375 degrees F. Reflective Chrome must be top coated with Gloss Clear (10093), Clear Super Gloss (10286) or one of our Translucent finishes to prevent tarnishing.

Arby- That looks simelar to the bumper plating ones and may still be sold by JC Whitney those ran off car batt, These might work but Im thinking it will only work on metal due to the conductivity needed through the metal part, Notice that power was standard flashlight batt, Lets se if we can get more info

I think its kinda like the silver parts on plastic models , Guess the only way we will know is somebody will have to get one and try it, the metal is very thin and Im not sure how everthing will conduct , As I consulted my "Out house engineering co " but didnt get a good answer, so I guess trial and error to find out, Good luck to some body to try it

Whatever you do DON'T use a Dremel or other high speed rotary device. The plastic chrome disfigures in literally about 5 seconds under the mild heat....

    Trust me I did it!
