Default Reels don't turn, won't accept coins

Machine was working fine for 2 years, then we lost the keys. So it sat up for about a year. Now we are able to turn the machine on. The front door of machine lights up. No sounds. We press button and pull lever, but reels will not spin. Sometimes the machine will allow coins to fall into hopper, and sometimes it won't . Right now it won't. I am not even sure that I know how to reset it properly. Can't find anyone to repair it in Louisiana. My dad bought it at a gargage sale in Georgia and gave to my kids to play with. Any help would be greatly appreceiated.

appears to be an Olympia designed machine .looks like the machine needs a full reset .the game over light is on which usually means it got to the end of the bonus game .if your switches are set in the parlor mode that requires a key reset . looks like it may have been replaced by that black on off switch .place it in the off position then turn off the big red rocker switch off . then turn the red rocker back on and hold the spin knob down and flip the black switch on while holding the spin knob down . hopefully that will do it for you ,the machine looks to need a good cleaning and also may need its connections on its cables cleaned as well.good luck .

Default Reset worked, but reels still don't spin?

I followed your instructions, and it seems that the machine was reset. The game over light is no longer lit. However, the reels still do not move. The machine does need a cleaning inside. I am not sure how to do this. I have never owned a machine like this before.
I appreciate your help. I would greatly accept anymore advice that you may have on how to get the reels to spin and how to clean the cables/contacts as you suggested.

It seems that the reset worked, the Game Over is no longer lit. However, the reels still do not spin.
Any other suggestions, and how do I clean the contact/cables as you suggested, the inside is dirty.

First blow out or brush out using a wide clean paintbrush the dust.
Windex works great for most of the parts.
It is even good for the reels just use a soft touch on the reels and soft cloths.
Clean the contacts either using contact cleaner or alcohol
Use a nice plastic polish for the finish such as Brillianeze or Novus.

from the new pictures you posted it looks like your half way there the machine is still in the reset mode . if you were holding the spin knob down when you put the black switch back it didn't work . you might want to check the spin knob out and clean the contacts on it .on these older machines the connectors have a bad habit of not making up well try pressing on the connector a bit not to hard or you'll break it . also if you press the black momentary switch next to the black on off switch (with the black on -off switch in the off position) in the current mode the number should change on the bottom led that's the skill level the settings are 1-6 one being the hardest and 6 being the easiest . if you have a radio shack near by they sell a contact cleaner in pen form that de oxidizes contacts it isn't cheap but it works great . don't give up on that machine its a great old vintage machine worthy of restoration I prefer this type of machine because it doesn't give away the outcome before you finish pressing the third reel .It gives you the intended feeling that you indeed are in control of the outcome of the reels when in fact you have very little control of the real outcome of the reels their just a output device like a crt monitor (except in the bonus games where eyeshooting is needed to achieve the most winnings)..you might want to try holding the black knob down and turning the black on off switch to the off position and see if that puts the machine back into the play mode im not sure if its suppose to be in the on or off position for game mode .

either way you should hear the selinoid relay kick in on the coin shute and the top led should show zero and the insert medals light should start blinking .then the game is ready to play...

Thanks for reply. I will stop by Radio Shack tomorrow to pick up the deoxide pen that you spoke of. I will try it on some of the contacts and redo all steps again.
I do want to mention that the coins do not fall into the hopper anymore since we stored away the machine. Sometimes they do, but most times they do not...they just fall back into the payout bin on the front of the machine.
Also, the selinoid relayon the coin shute doesn't make any kind of sound when trying to reset the machine, or when turning the machine on and off.

until the machine has made a full reset the relay wont pick up and the coins will drop into the front tray as they should . once reset the relay should pick up and allow the coins to ride the rail past the sensor and be registered as a credit on the machine and fall into the hopper. if the machine faults or the credit meter is at 50 or the power goes out the relay denergises and the coins are returned to the tray . so far the machine apears to be doing its job properly except your not fully out of the reset mode and need to check the spin knob to see if its working otherwise it wont go back into game mode without it .

I only saw 2 credits in one photo, it may need 3 tokens per pull.
Pachislos: Alien, Azteca Returns, Death Valley, Guts, Gamera HGV, Hokuto No Ken, Jet Set Radio, Mephisto, Oasis, Speed Racer, Surprise, Twenty Seven, Thunderbirds, Wild Wolf
Pachinkos: Blooming Field, Casino, Freddy vs Jason, Horror Mansion, Indiana Jones, Julie, Lucky Boat of Seven God, Popeye, Spiderman

most machines of this vintage play 1-2 or 3 credits. besides I'm pretty sure that's the skill level we're looking at since he isn't getting the flashing ins medals light . Also Bhampton check the board above the reels in the last photo .that's the reel stop board . it has a fuse on it that controls the reel stop buttons and start knob as well as a few other things make sure that fuse is good .If it isnt you can find replacements of the same size at radio shack as well.

Very nice machine! I love the older simple ones. I hope you get it working! I think Alstonj1 is on the right track with his advice!

found the pictures of the old winkle machine i use to own as you can see there are many similarities to the design .

Image of winkle - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

and this is my baby . Super Bunny girl

    Vintage are great machines ...

in both cases the top led is the credits the bottom is the skill level or payout led .

winkle machine looks just like my machine, i am really, really hoping that i can fix it. my husband gave up months ago .i think that it would just be a waste of a good machine to throw away at city dump. no one in louisiana will touch it or repair it for me. and it's new to me, i am so appreciative of your help.
