    Default Grandparents `Step by Step'

Hola! After many hours of cleaning the house of debris and such...soon after my last Grandparent passed away, I found an odd item. I felt a connect but wasn't sure of what it was. It wasn't until I found Patchitalk that I knew I had something that would forever remind of my youth. I would appreciate any comments (good or bad) about what I may have. More pix will soon follow. First, WELCOME! You have come to the right place.

    Next, sorry about your grandfather.

Looks like you've got a Sankyo...I think. Probably manufactured in/around 1974-1975...just a guess on my part.

You will have fun cleaning it up (be sure to check some of the other threads about different cleaning techniques)...Once you get it cleaned up and get the lights working, you will have a fun and lasting connection with your grandfather...pass it down to following generations.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask questions when you get stumped. The folks here are always eager to help and to discuss.
I'm not addicted to Pachinkos. I can quit at any time. Did I tell you about the three machines that I have on the way?

    Thx BD. Mucho appreciado!

From what I've seen, there's some quite classy people in the 'group' and I hope not to disturb with supposed 'simpleton' type questions that I've approached others with...here is a different connect. A 'CHINK' in the chain of life! <you can quote me on that>

Is my game clean for as old I am?

Whilst it is true there are some super knowledgeable members here at PT, I think most of us found our way here by needing to ask very similiar questions to which most new members ask...

It doesn't matter if it's a simple question or a more complex one, you will find the Members here are very helpful and encouraging, so ask away!!

I attempted once...only to try again.
Don't you hate when you type out a righteous statement only to have it 'hour-glassed' to nowhere?! Here's as I remember it:

I took more pics. Is that a light in the center?? I see that there`s one up there on the left for an empty hopper, but it IS also connected to the see-saw 'payout' touchy-paddy. Man...yous guys taught me all've that. Hopefully I'm not tooo off.

Welcome DiscMonkey! It does appear that you have a Sankyo Machine. Here's quick breakdown on the vintage machine you have.

There are two lights. One that flashes briefly when a 'jackpot' is paid and it is usually located behind the center 'jackpot' area. The other one on that only comes on when the 'reward hopper' at the top is empty and that light is usually located to the side or top of the game. Originally these were 10v DC bulbs and they may still be. For one machine I use a 12v transformer and the 10v lights and on another I use a 6v transformer and changed out the bulbs at Radio Shack. However, since the lights don't affect the game play, I generally do everything else first such as cleaning, adjusting and fixing before I deal with the lights.

I clean all my machines with your standard glass cleaner. DO NOT USE SOAP AND WATER! Your cell looks to be in great condition with no water stains from previous attempts to clean with soap and water. (I have one that is stained as such). When I clean my cell (playing field) is use a q-tips type of applicator that has a long wooden stick. Regular q-tips work but you can't scrub as hard with them. You can find these sticks as places like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. and other hobby stores. I do not spray the glass clean directly on the cell but instead put a few shots in a small plate/cup and then dip the q-tip into it. Again, I'm trying not to 'stain' the cell. It takes me about an hour or so to clean the front of the cell.

I will be uploading a word document soon that goes into detail on how a vintage works. Once I do, I'll post the notice here.

Good luck and welcome to PachiTalk!

Thank you all for such warm greetings and sound advice.
I've found time goes by rather fast whilst tinkering and introducing myself to the machine...er...new friend? One hour turns into 'Whoops! Was I really down there for THAT long!!!

Anyway, I attached a few more pictures as I have to ask a few more questions - seems like a good trade.

So WRKEY, there IS a light inside the middle (last photo)? I was thinking so but wasn't sure. The 'empty' light does light up (it's the original bulb) but not the center. At first I thought maybe a wire was shot but I may need to investigate the bulb first. I just need to know how to get to it. BTW - the entire green back is stapled and screwed to the wood.

Again, thank you all in advance!!

Access to the light for the Jackpot on your machine is as follows:

You will notice two screws holding the name plate on. These two screw also holds the jackpot cover on. Remove those two screws and the large rectangular cover will pull straight back and off. There might be one more screw at the to right (or left) but I doubt it. Easiest way, remove the name plate screws and see what the cover binds if it doesn't slip off.

For the light, once you get inside you will find that the light socket is simple held in place by the 'wire tie down' that you can see through the cover in your last photo. Loosen the wire tie down screw and swivel it out of the way. The light socket should then just pull out.

My suggestion, since you already know the hopper empty light works, take that bulb and replace the jackpot light with it. Then continue with your referb. Since the JP light is hard to get to, when you get a new bulb you can more easily replace the hopper empty light. Besides, the machine will stop you from playing through mechanics should the hopper go empty anyway and having the JP light flash is so much more fun!

One other suggestion, while you got the JP cover off, go ahead and clean what you can reach in that area before you button it back up.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Just unscrew the green box in your last picture to get at the bulb. You can get suitable replacements at Radio Shack: #50 Screw-Base Lamp 7.5 volts - 220mA. I run both sets of lights off a nine volt rechargeable battery, since neither light stays on (unless you leave the top hopper empty). You can clip the battery to the wood with a metal U-clip and a terminal connector (also at Radio Shack).

In the full photo of the back of your machine, it shows a small amount of balls in the feed chutes and yet the ramp levers that activate the hopper empty devices in the 'down position'. Now either you did this to make the game play with a minimum amount of balls or the previous person who worked on it did it or it's just stuck.

If it's the latter two of the three, you will need to 'undo' this binding for the hopper empty portion to work properly. If you did it yourself, ignore this post.

How many balls do your currently have? Unless you got 500+ you might want to go ahead and purchase some more as you will have this baby running in short order and not having balls is... well... disappointing.

Curious to me that the people from Miracle Cloth would use the alternative and seldom used spelling of the word Coconut.

If your going to remove more then one part remember to grab you camera (preferably a digital) and take lots of photos before and after you remove something. You wouldn't beleive how many times this has saved me when it came time to put back together a machine I was cleaning.

The first time I was cleaning a machine I had to look a one of my other fully assembled machines so I could put it back together again. It can be like tying to put together a million piece puzzle with out the picture if you don't take photos.
