You just have to program it to operate "The Force". I have the IR database for that. Although you cant control the WHOLE universe at once. That would just be silly.

What? You can't set up macros for those functions?

I bought a remote yesturday...I wanted the Harmony 550 (45 bucks) but Best buy was out, so I bought the 510 (75 bucks). I like it. Easy as heck to program, and if something is not programed correctly, I don't need to go back to the PC to fix it. I hit help, and it asks if a device was not correct, then fixes it right there. COOL!

I can now sit on my a$$, and relax, hit one button, and BAM!!! I'm watching a movie, or BAM!! I'm wathcing tv. And Music, VCR, Yada Yada Yada.

I am still looking for a universal remote. And it looks like you have found a nice one in the Logitech Harmony 510.

A nice video showing the 510:

And cnet has a helpful write up:

I am presently looking at the Logitech AURX360. It is very much like the 510 but it has some dedicated functions for the 360.

A great price on the AURX360.

Amazon.com: Logitech Harmony Xbox 360 Remote: Electronics

If you are you using your 360 to access your Netflix account this seems like the 'logical' device use.

Wow... Prices change in the blink of an eye. Yestarday I paid $51.95 for the Logitech AURX360. Now they are $79.97. I guess Amazon sold out of them.

You can still go into featured merchants and reserve one for $51.95.

    Thanks for the write-up Tulsa.

I finally ordered a refurb'ed Harmony 890 primarily for it's RF capability. My electronic gear is behind glass doors and is partially obscured by my overhead projector screen.

Programming this thing sounds like an enjoyable challenge. All that seems to be missing are the voice commands. Do I use Morse Code for the clap-on clap-off thing so that I can address all the different devices?

Can you elaborate further as to the why and what of "magic codes" for remotes?

Magic codes are codes not necessarily supported by the remote that came with your device.

Okay that sounds a bit strange so let me give you an example, my Mits remote allows me to change my input by pressing two buttons. "Input button" and "#" of input button. The magic code would be between 1 and 256 to do that move in one button press. Using a remote like the Radio Shack "All in One" allows you to find what that number (between 1 and 256 really is) to make that change in one button and learn in that code to your universal remote. It just makes life a bit easier when programming your universal remote to perform functions that your manufacturer didn't necessarily feel you needed.

I received my Logitech Harmony XBox 360 Universal Remote (AURX360) today. And have spent the last 1 1/2 hours setting it up. All I can say is WOW. I don't know why I didn't buy one before.

When I wanted to watch a movie before, I had to get 3 remotes:

1: Get the TV remote, press "on".
2: Push the "source" button until the appropriate input was selected.
3: Get the Surround remote press "on"
4: Push the appropriate input button.
5: Get the DVD remote, press "on".

    Now 1 remote.

    1. Push the "Activities" button.
    2. select "Watch a DVD"

That is it. The universal remote turns the surround system, TV and DVD player "on". Then it turns both the surround system and TV to the right inputs. If I choose to switch to "Watch TV" it turns the surround system and DVD off, then turns the Cable box on and the TV to the correct input. All by pushing one button, "Watch TV"... WOW.

I should have done this along time ago. The set up was quite easy. It did take an hour and half. But 30 minutes was because I was just playing with the different possibilities.

    The set up involved:

1: Loading the "CD". This step I skipped. After buying the remote, I went to the company's website and downloaded the software while I was waiting for it to be delievered... (hmm... was this step to geeky?)

2: After launching the software you choose "Add Device". Then type in the Type (TV), Manufacture (Samsung), Model number (FP-T5084). You do this for every device you are adding.

3: The next steps walks you through any special things that you need to select for the devices. Ex. TV - Your TV automatically senses your inputs. So the software asks you to choose which inputs you are using.

    4. It will then ask you to choose which activities" you wish to input to your remote. Ex. "Watch a DVD", "Watch TV", "Listen to a CD", "Play Xbox 360", "Listen to Radio" and etc. The above are the ones I choose.

    5. You then set up how you want each activity to work. Ex. "Watch a DVD" You choose:

    A. Volume controlled by - 1. TV - 2. AV receiver
    B. TV input:
    C. AV input:
    C. DVD played by - 1. DVD player - 2. Game consul.

    6. You do the previous for each activity you choose.

    7. You hook your remote into the computer with the provided cable.

    8. The software then downloads all of the controls to your remote.

    9. You unplug and test your remote. If one of the activities doesn't work right, there is a "help" button on the remote that walks you through fixing it. One of mine did not work right. And it took all of about 20 seconds to correct it.

    10. Your done!!! Well all of this may seem a little long, it really isn't. And the software is very simple to use. It saves all of your chooses for future changes.

*The only thing to note: The software I downloaded from the website was a newer version of the one that came with the remote. So if you buy any of the Logitech Universal Remotes, you would be better off to do like me.

All of this for $52. The Xbox 360 version is very similar to the Harmony 550 and 520, except with a few buttons added for controlling the media functions of the 360.
