Default New Jersey is changing the law !

I did some research today and found out that New Jersey is changing the law about the legality of Pachislo machines. Grand View Products in Suffern NY told me that the ink is still wet on a bill that caused Costco to recall all machines that they sold over the Holiday. They are also offering a $ 50.00 gift card at their stores as compensation for the inconveniece. Has anyone out there heard about this ? There is supposed to be a $ 500.00 fine for selling a unit. Grand View will no longer sell the machines in NJ.

    This is wild!
I wonder if it's pachislo in particular, or all skill-stop slots?
The boardwalk arcades in Wildwoods and other beach resorts are full of skill-stoppers... and video poker too! They give out prizes, and machines pay in tickets.

Is there any press release on this yet?

Usually it's the lottery people that have a hand in these shutdowns for some reason. But in Jersey, it could be the casinos... or even Trump!

I know there are few Okies on the board here, so I will tell you what happened today.

I go to a local Pool Table, Pinball, etc. place that I know sold Pachislo's (outrageous prices), but I thought I would cruise in anyways.

I asked to see his Pachislo's and he was abrupt and said it will be a while before he gets anymore. So I reply with "Big Christmas season huh?" His only reply was "yeah for the OKC Police Dept.".....He would't comment any further.

For any Okies, it was Galaxy on Reno in OKC.

I guess Pachislo's are a grey area for legal authorities.

I researched all the Oklahoma laws on these and we are saved by the "thing of value" clause. In order for the machines to be considered "slot machines" they have to dispense "a thing of value". A token in / token out is no value. A free spin is no value.

I suspect he was converting these to accept quarters.

In Indiana there are differing opinions as to whether pachislos are legal or not. Part of that problem comes down to the same "something of value" issue.

Indiana defines "thing of value" as anything that "could" have a value. You could sell people tokens and they could cash them in. So, they "could" have value.

Technically is it illegal in Indiana to have a pinball machine that shows the number of free game won on counter. You can win free games, and the pinball could show a light when there is a free game, but it can't show the number of free games, because you "could" cash them in.

This law is rarely applied to modern pinball machines. Historically it was used against bingo pinballs which have free game counters that go into the hundreds and really were used to for payoffs.

But, back in the days when this pinball law was being actively enforced, you'd find that most regular pinball games had a sticker that covered up the hole in the backglass where the counter was. I think most manufacturers actually included this sticker with the machines.
