Default New poster acquires old Nishijin A

Hello everyone. I've been watching all of you for some time now and decided to grace you with my presence.

From what I can determine, this is the Royal Crown made in the 60's. Found in an old barn, I purchased it for $10. Probably paid too much. Among all of the dead bugs, also found marbles, pennies and nicely rusted 60's pachinko spheres.

Chrome is toast. So I'm trying the paint option to see how that goes. Not sure I like it that much as it has a tendency to rub off and doesn't hold up very well. Can always re-strip, I guess.

Fan of the site. Lots of great info here!

Before pics attached. Currently in renovation mode (complete disassemble).

I should also add that I have never played a working pachinko box. First introduction was via my cousin who didn't want me to touch *her* game... this was back in mid 70's. They told me is was broken (probably jammed) and that I shouldn't touch. Just look!

So, when I got this rust bucket, I threw a couple of balls up so in that sense, I've played. But that's it!. Can't wait to get this thing together. Uh... sure hope it works.

Hi Wibbix, I have a thread on here http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/vint...hine-help.html where I used steel wool to take off the rust and had good luck going back with flat black paint. Good luck with your machine, it looks like the one I just got.

Thanks, I did see that post.

I took a medium grit paint stripper, attached to my drill and went to town. Worked great but I would warn those who try not to stay in one spot too long. I would only use the stripper if you don't want to save *any* chrome. Like I said, mine was completely shot. The hardest part is dealing with the pitting.

if your going to paint, run down to your auto paint shop and get spotting putty. it's like air dry bondo, works great for pitting and scratches.drys overnight and sands well.

    Wibbix,

It will cost you $10 to go see a movie...you will likely get much more enjoyment and satisfaction in bringing your machine back to life.

On the other hand, you can watch a movie in 2 hours or less. Be prepared to spend a bit more time with your pachinko restoration.

Welcome aboard, and keep us updated with pics of your progress.
I'm not addicted to Pachinkos. I can quit at any time. Did I tell you about the three machines that I have on the way?

My restoration was going well until I noticed two things and I'm asking anyone with Nishijin A knowledge to lend a hand.

First problem is missing parts. I hadn't noticed this before but found the jackpot retention to be missing some type of "holder". From the pic, you can see how the spheres would bounce out and otherwise double up. Anyone have a pic of the jackpot without the white plastic cover (which I also have missing).

Second part is... uh, I'm ashamed to admit, is *extra* parts. Yes, although I've taken photos, the other pic is of a part that I can't figure it's location. It must have been hiding behind something else but I'm lost as to where it goes. I figure I'll ask the vintagepachinko guys, too, but thought I would at least admit my guilt here. What's funny is that the machine plays fine without it. Go figure.

    Help.

could the clear plastic piece fit somewhere over the red jackpot regulator? I have a triangular clear plastic on my sophia from the 50's in that area.

over the jackpot seesaw, there is only a grey plastic roof that covers and has no function on my machine.

It looks like you might be missing a few covers. Compare yours to my photos. My machine is a bit older, so not every part is the same, but it looks like you are missing the cover over the rocker, the double tilt ramp, and the ball drain bypass below the tilt ramp. If you need replacements so it will function—and you can't cobble something together—I would look for an identical but more damaged machine (there are lots of that model floating around on craigslist) to get replacement parts (or use this a a parts machine). Getting parts from Bill at pachinkoman.com will cost you more than the than what you paid for the machine (and that's just the shipping).

From what I can tell, this unit didn't have any more covers except to cover the payout. The main part that was missing and was causing havoc on play was the tunnel between the payout rocker and the load ramp.

For those that care, I've included a pic of my engineered solution.

I simply created a dual channel conduit between the ramp and the rocker. I guess others call this the payout see-saw? It's just left over plexi from the front.

Anyway, works like a charm and I've been playing my heart out. Good stuff! Thanks for all the help. Last stage is to clean the pins and redo the frame and I'll consider this restore complete (at least for me, anyway).

    very nice job!

sorry I didn't realize that you had part of the ramp missing, or I would have taken a close up of what usually goes there.

Bad weather came too fast and I ran out of time. The frame has rot and other structural damage so I might build a whole new one.

But, that all waits until spring-ish.
