    Nippon = Japan, Japanese
    Fever = Bonus payoff
    Yes, but have Japanese front for them.

    Actually, Japan is either "Nippon" or "Nihon",
    the Japanese language "Nihon-go", and
    Japanese people "Nihon-jin"

    Nippon Steel is one of our biggest clients in Japan.

    Golgo13,

    You wrote that after your win, you were asked to leave. I have read elsewhere that patrons who were foreigners were not welcome in pachinko parlors. What do you think?

    I have also read that parlors often ask players to change machines after a big win or go away from it for a brief period of time before playing it again.

    Do these policies apply uniformly to regular players as well as foreigners and new players?

    Good questions.

    I don't think pachinko parlors try to exclude foreigners ("Gaijin") if they're paying customers. With parlors on almost every block in the commercial districts of cities and towns, competition is fierce. They wouldn't deliberately turn away business. And unlike most young foreigners living in Japan who are students or English teachers, I wore a suit and clearly looked like a businessman. BTW, as tough as the Japanese immigration laws are--we could learn something from them--there are so many foreigners in Japan that, according to their 2001 census, one out of every 20 newlywed couples was a mixed marriage, i.e., Japanese and a foreigner.

    Maybe I misunderstood the attendant. She might've meant they were closing, but then there were a few Japanese customers who continued to play.

    Or it was just that something about me didn't sit right with them. I really can't say if the policies apply evenly because I played only once for one night. If I didn't have to fly back States-side the next morning I might have played again at a different parlor. I can see how that game could be so addicting.

    You could always win by quietly accumulating balls without getting an O'atari (jackpot), but when I hit it, it was obvious--all kinds of loud music, lights flashing, just like a Vegas slot machine's jackpot--so the attendants noticed me and kept an eye on me.

    There was also a sign that read something like "We reserve the right to refuse service to those who we perceive to be Pachi-pros."

    But if any of y'all ever get a chance to go to Japan, either for business or pleasure, it's a very nice country with friendly people. And DO play Pachinko!

    Any of you know any good on-line Pachinko game sites (without having to download or pay for)?

    In the last 4 years I've gone twice for business.

    Last time, I was in Osaka prefecture, Sakai city. I stayed at what they call over there a "business hotel", an inexpensive, no-frills hotel but it was adequate. Hotel Nankai. I saw quite a few Westerners in the lobby. And very conveniently located for my needs. 30 minute train ride to the Int'l airport. The great thing was, there was a Denny's--no ****!--Denny's a few blocks away. I ate breakfast there every morning. You had a choice of Japanese breakfast (with rice, miso soup, etc.) or Western-style breakfast of toast, coffee, eggs, ham, bacon, etc.

    If I go again, I'll use some vacation time and do some sightseeing. I also want to ride on that bullet train that goes like 200 mph.

    Golgo - thanks very much for your input in this thread. It is very insightful. I joined this forum recently, as I have been actively looking to purchase a pachinko for my home. My brother (an engineer, who lives in Michigan), just told me he may be traveling to Japan in the near future on business. I'll bet he would enjoy a visit to a Pachinko parlor.

    Nosmo,

    Yes, if he has some free time he should play pachinko at least once.

    Send him the link to the on-line game I've posted above so he'll have an idea of how to play the game.

    Tell him to have a great time in Japan!

    Here's their website but the hotel is not open yet.

    Default Pachinko Question

    I want to buy my first modern solid state Pachinko game. Is Fever the King a good machine and is $ 299.95 plus freight at $ 60.00 a good buy ? Can I find a Popeye at the same price ? Frank A

    That fever king is really infated in my opinion. Last summer I believe some even went for $82. They were dirt cheap. Even syscom had them direct purchase for $169.00.

    $299 is abysmal, They will come back down and I wouldn't even go near that price.

    i try to buy all my machines from milt because id rather pay a 30 pickup fee over 70 shipping, and his machines are top quality but i wont pay 299 for the fever king so i guess ill have to wait for him to either drop the prices to something lower or find one on ebay for a low price
