Default My First Experience with Pachinko

I traveled to Japan last spring, and out of curiosity I decided to play pachinko but only 2,000 Yen worth. I got lucky. I got "Ooatari" and balls kept coming out! Then a female attendant came over and asked me to cash out. I wonder if she thought I was a "Pachi Pro". Anyways, I took all my balls up to the cash-out counter, but all they had were prizes to exchange for the balls, so I asked if I could get cash back. The clerk handed me a slip of paper and called for an attendant. The attendant escorted me out of the parlor and to a small storefront booth next door where I was told to just turn in the slip of paper. The clerk there handed me about 6,000 Yen in cash, with which I treated myself to a sushi dinner!

I would love to play this game again before I have to go to Japan again. I once heard that there is a casino in Las Vegas that has pachinko machines available for play. Is this true? If so, which casino is it?

Great story! I've heard about the booths, but didn't know if that was true or not! Great to hear it is!

Sorry, I don't know about any Vegas casino's with Pachinko.

But you can have your own Pachinko Hall in your own home.
8 machines and some ball lifters, pretty girls in short skirts running around.
I would never leave home, I even go to the bathroom in my pants!

    Thanks folks!

    Arby,

River City in Iowa? Where is that? I went to Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, Poweshiek (sp?) County.

If they have so many people hooked on Pachinko in Japan, the U.S. Gaming Industry ought to consider installing them here, if not in Vegas then anywhere else.

It brings up what is known as the "Chuck E Cheese" law in some states. Gets kinda sticky.

    Here's some propoganda on it:

    Dave,

I see, but if the machines are put in proper casinos in Nevada, Atlantic City, or those on Indian reservations it shouldn't be any worse than slot machines.

    Golgo_13,

First, remember we pachinko nuts are an exclusive breed.

We go to great lengths to play these bouncing ball games of skill and chance.

Unfortunately, because the game has an element of skill associated with it, the current gaming laws must exclude it. All casino slot games must not be skill based but totally random.

Next, lawyers would have a field day with "injury" suits caused by the little steel ball.

The original American casinos were noisy places when mechanical slots were the status quo. The racket from a bank of pachinkos would not please casino executives.

And last, the American gaming industry would be too dependent upon foreign manufacturing sources which possess most of the patents related to pachinko.

As much as I love my pachinko, I don't see it as a viable game for American casinos. I hope I am wrong.

Yes, of course. I didn't realize there was so much skill involved with the modern pachinkos that shoot out the balls with a turn of the dial, unlike the old ones that had the spring-release shooters.

    Me too.

Or just put them in for "amusement" without any cash prizes and charge by the minute.

I'll let the pun go. I'm sure it was unintended.

At the better brothels in Nevada--I've been to the Chicken Ranch in Pahrump, NV--the hookers ain't cheap! And not very many attractive ones. :-(

I guess I'll just wait until my next trip to Japan to play Pachinko. This on-line game doesn't do it for me:

    pachinko http://sabgames.com/arcade/pachinko.html

I was told that the word "Pachinko" is an onomatopoeia for the sound of the metal ball being hit--Pachin!--and by adding the suffix "ko", it makes it something like "The thing that goes 'pachin!'".

    But y'all already knew that.

    Golgo:

Some of us are waiting anxiously for the grand opening of Wynn's Hotel and Casino in LasVegas as they have (we believe) Aruze as a partner. There are rumors of an area of Pachislos and Pachinkos...but that is just a rumor from a few weeks ago. In fact Wynn's may be open by now..not sure..

    azlew,

    From Las Vegas Review:

"In addition to serving as the company's chief executive officer, Wynn will serve as chairman of Wynn Resorts' board. Kazuo Okada, whose Japanese company Aruze Corp. has an ownership stake in Wynn Resorts equal to Wynn's, will serve as vice chairman.

Okada, through Aruze, and Wynn each control 47.4 percent of Wynn Resorts stock before the public offering. No price has been set for the shares slated to be sold through the offering. "

If they have an area for Pachinko, I'm gonna be a regular there! LOL! :smt038

Still finding out if the hotel is open yet. If it is, I'll just call them and find out.

Let's keep our fingers crossed. If Aruze is involved, they've got to put in at least a "for amusement only" pachinko area.

    Thanks Golgo !

Let me know what you find out. We are due to go to Las Vegas again soon and we would love to drop into Wynn's and see the decor etc. If there were Pachislos and Pachinkos that would be a real plus :!:

I once saw on a Japanese show that the biggest element of "skill" exhibited by a Pachi-Pro is in choosing the right machine in a parlor. They quickly scan the panel and look for any slight curves or misplacement of nails that can increase the chances of getting a ball in a slot.

One might argue that there is also skill involved in properly aiming the ball when shooting. However, once the ball hits anywhere on the very top row of nails, then it's all random from there on. When a ball hits a given nail, it can fall either to the left or right, at 50-50 chance, as long as the nails on the panel are properly placed and calibrated, and that's the responsibility of the parlor.

    What do ya think?

I remember when I played in Japan I was looking for a machine with the "Tulip", which I'm sure y'all know about, and I noticed that a female attendant was looking at me. I'm sure she thought I was studying the machines, and that's why when I hit the Jack-pot I was asked to cash out and leave, even though I wanted to keep playing.

That was my last night in Osaka so I couldn't play again. :-(

I would agree with you completely on this. You can control the speed and try to land on a particular nail but after that.. Who knows? :-?

The nails from the factory are adjusted with a slight upward angle, and per the order they are tight or loose. Than the hall will tinker with them more, changing them sometimes daily to keep it from being to easy.
The amount to change a nail, is very small and the balls will go to the adjustment more offen than not. These machines, there is not any "50-50 chance". The chance is set by the nail bends.
In Nippon, you happened on a machine ready to "Fever", what we call here as "Plain Lucky". Her asking you to stop is, because they don't like non-nippon winning.

BTW, is it true that many of these parlors in Japan are owned and operated by those who are ethnically Korean?
