OK, Can someone help on deciding the right pak for my popcorn popper?

I got the Crap popcorn popper for christmas earlier talked about in this thread and quickly returned it.

I went and bought the Lincoln 8 Ounce popper from Discount Tommy on Ebay . It's made by the great American Popcorn Co.

Black Bar Style "Lincoln" 8 Ounce Antique Popcorn Machine (Bar Style)

There are so many paks out there...Yellow, White, Canola, Coconut oil, Peanut Oil...Etc.

Does anyone here use the paks? I tried to get a sample, but no one would send just one pak. It's a case or nothing. Here is what i am reffering to..

Case (24) of 4 Ounce Great American Popcorn Portion Packs

I don't want to buy a case of 24 and find that I don't like it.

    What would you recomend?

OK YJ, Here is my Recomendation... Just dont bother with the packs a dozen packs cost as much as close to 100 my way.

buy a 5 or 10 lb bag of popcorn.

get a gallon of either canola oil, or popping oil at a food service supply place or warehouse store.

use either fine seasalt or seasoned salt that you put in a spice grinder to powder (AS you wish)

I use an old 8 oz mason jar from one of those fancy pasta sauces at the grocery store (it even has little 2, 4 and 6 oz lines in the glass)

measure about 8 oz of popcorn into the jar, add oil up to about 1/2 the way up the popcorn kernels, add 2 level teaspoons of salt.

Start heating the popper and just add everything once it starts to heat.

it will save you a fortune on those "Packs" and if you have a "Gordon Food Service" anywhere local they have canola popping oil by the gallon that has a butter flavor and the yellow coloring that you may be looking for.

I'm afraid you're going to have worry about me then.

    NO BUTTER!

Last thing I need is greasy popcorn slipping out of my hands.

The Machine was a great Bargain. I've always wanted one. I got it from a second chance offer...about 100 bucks less than what he sells them on his website for.

The first thing that struck me was the SIZE! The box came into work and it annoyed me a little that it was so big. but when I got it home, I found the machine inside was exactly the size I was looking for.

My next fear was it would be noisy. After having gotten one of those Cheap plastic machines (Spoken about in another thread) I assembled it, and turned it on. Thought it was broken...couldn't hear a thing. but, it was working perfectly.

I will build a cart for it this summer.

Let me know what you think about my claim on the supplies. when I do parties for the kids or the church I just make little zip lock bags with the popcorn and seasoning measured out already and just use a little measuring cup for the oil (4 oz popcorn 1fl oz oil, 6-1.5, 8-2.0 etc...) Makes it easy and much cheaper. Less crap to throw out as well.

I like your idea on making my own supplies. I will definaletly give it a try. I ordered the paks for two reasons, One: to try them out, and Two: I plan on lending my machine out to my company I work for so they can use the Popcorn paks too.
