I just bought this popper from Target today.
I got it for my wife as an early Christmas gift, she is a popcorn junkie but she always eats the microwave popcorn.
We will make some tonight and I will let you know how it works.

    Product review time folks -

I can sum it up in 3 words - Don't Buy It !
It is a really nice looking machine, my wife just loved the way it looked.
But it does not work worth a sh$$.
The motor makes a hell of a racket and where the gears of the motor and the kettle mesh it is really flimsy, about every 3rd turn it binds up and causes the kettle to shift back and forth.
The 3rd batch we popped, the motor stopped dead halfway through the process because the stirrer jammed on the popcorn and I had to smack the handle on the side to free it up, not just a little smack, I really had to hit it hard.
We cleaned it up and put it back in the box and it is going back to Target tomorrow for a refund.

I bought a commercial grade machine at a thrift store for about $12. Just got lucky. It cleaned up really nice and now I get great popcorn. The microwaveable stuff can be nice, but nothing beats the real thing...

I have both the Whirley Pop and also a 4oz commerical popper at home. The whirley pop makes more better tasting popcorn and is faster than microwaving one of those terrible bags. When popping corn oil is a big key to great taste. I would suggest using coconut oil for the best in flavor. This place hs some pretty good popcorn PopcornPopper.com - Great Popcorn, Gift Sets, & Popcorn Poppers and supplies. You can order a whirley pop from there as well.

This is the machine I have at home.
    and a few others.

OK, Can someone help on deciding the right pak for my popcorn popper?

I got the Crap popcorn popper for christmas earlier talked about in this thread and quickly returned it.

I went and bought the Lincoln 8 Ounce popper from Discount Tommy on Ebay . It's made by the great American Popcorn Co.

Black Bar Style "Lincoln" 8 Ounce Antique Popcorn Machine (Bar Style)

There are so many paks out there...Yellow, White, Canola, Coconut oil, Peanut Oil...Etc.

Does anyone here use the paks? I tried to get a sample, but no one would send just one pak. It's a case or nothing. Here is what i am reffering to..

Case (24) of 4 Ounce Great American Popcorn Portion Packs

I don't want to buy a case of 24 and find that I don't like it.

    What would you recomend?

Sorry if I'm resurrecting a thread that is too old.

I have a 6oz one like this: Red "Popcorn Time" 6 Ounce Antique Popcorn Machine and Cart

It gets used a few times a week on average. When it arrived though it had a manufacturer defect. One of the arms that descends from the top to hold the kettle had 2 out of 3 bolts off and the holes were stressed like a machine didn't insert them right but tried anyway. I replaced those with screws I had.

I also had some issues with the doors sticking and not opening. My trick for that was to ensure that the doors are all the way out when I start popping since they pivot at the hinge. Another issue that I have is that after a few batches in a row the kettle heats up enough that it expands and forces the shaft that has the stirrer gear up against the top of the popcorn area, this jams it and prevents it from turning so it starts going tic-tic-tic.

The final issue I have with it is sometimes the popcorn pops too well. If a lot pops at once it can jam between the kettle and the cross brace that the lids attach to. And it packs in there pretty tightly too! I keep a fork on top of the popper to push that out. It rarely happens unless I'm doing multiple in a row as I think it only happens when the kettle is preheated. I am bad, I don't really preheat the way the instructions say.

    I do these in order:
    Turn on kettle
1/3 cup oil (the cheap gallon butter flavored stuff from Samsclub)
1 1/4 cup popcorn (Mighty Pop makes big popcorn, store brands seem small in comparison. Plus there seems to be less hulls with Mighty Pop)
1/2 scoop of butter flavored salt directly in kettle but spread out. I tend to do half, wait for the stirrer to go half way and pour the other half in.

I don't really wait any time between putting the oil in and adding the popcorn.

When I first got it I was disappointed because the kettle lids jammed, they offered to send me new lids, but never actually did. However I did figure out the trick to keep them from jamming. However I really like it now. Occasionally I'll make 8 or more batches in a row for parties. After that many it starts to jam a bit from the heat. It's not a commercial popper though so I'm aware that many in a row aren't really what it was meant to do.

I'm on my second 50lb bag of popcorn, and my 3rd gallon of oil. I'm still on the first container of salt. I find that adding it to the kettle is enough for me and I'm a person that really likes to salt about everything.

Cleaning it isn't so bad. I have one of those steamer/shark things, and I boil water in the kettle to clean it. Otherwise it's vinegar glass cleaner and paper towels for the most part.

The picture is from when I first put it together. That's not popcorn on the floor, it's bits of styrofoam packing.
