Default A confession to my wife

So...I came home late from work and humbly told my wife. "I have a confession to make." She looked into my eyes, thought for just a few seconds and then said...

"Oh sheet, you bought another dang Pachinko machine!"

Well.. she's was right. See the photos below of my new vintage Sankyo machine. I'm still researching but here's what I know so far. The sticker says 50 so I'm guessing it's a 72 model. There is the word 'Swing' on the top center target but I'm not sure if that's the name of the machine or just that feature. On the lower tray there are the words 'Azuma' and lots of Eqyption glyphs on it. Any one know the actual name?

Now for the bad news. The machine has a broken jackpot flap. There is a photo of the broken part below. The hopper is also broken so I've got a piece of cardboard taped up there for now. Anyone know where I can get either of these?

Oh.. got this one off of Craig's list here in Houston, Tx.

I have played it some by taping up the hopper and the jackpot switches. All the other components seem to be working okay. It appears to have a lot of elements that would make it fun to play.

    Later!

As I read your confession, I almost got the impression that your wife might have accepted an affair better than another pachinko in the house.

Good looking machine...good luck in fixing the problem...shouldn't be too big of an issue.
I'm not addicted to Pachinkos. I can quit at any time. Did I tell you about the three machines that I have on the way?

Well, I talked with the folks at Vintage Pachinko. He was away from the office and not sure if he had one of these parts or not. He was very cordial and stated he would look at my photos and get back with me.

What he did tell me, which now has me questioning my 'addiction', is that the jackpot flappers (for lack of a better term) are commonly broken and difficult to locate. Therefore, it makes the demand for them (because so many have broken ones) high but the supply of them (no one is making them any more) low. So.. basic economics here, high demand + low supply = higher cost. His estimate was more than I paid for the machine.

So.. lesson learned, always check the jackpot flapper when purchasing a vintage machine! In case he doesn't have the exact one I am missing.. anyone out there have one they want to sell?

I'm wondering if I can make it out of wood? I think I can use my band saw to make the general shape and then use thin metal to make the 'wings'. I'm gonna at least try. A chunk of wood is cheap and if it doesn't work... well.. I can always break down and ...

    Woo Hoo!

    I fixed it!

Yes folks, I took a piece of wood and using various tools made the part that was broke! I used a then piece of metal that was originally used as a deflector when the machine was in the Pachinko Palor to make the lower 'wing' part. I referenced my Nishijin for the 'Wing' part since I didn't have the original.

Photos are below. It ain't beautiful.. but it worked!

Oh.. the third photo.. is my wife putting the machine through it's paces! It hangs up now and then... but not because of the wood... I just need to clean her out and get all the old gunk out!

Hot damn! We be play'n now!

I assume you mean the machine and not the wife!
May be the last machine you get!

Good job, now you should paint and seal that part because small wood pieces tend to split.

Nice hack! I'm more of a purest—at least as far as trying to match the original mechanism. So I though of you when I was at pachinkoman.com and discovered Bill has started manufacturing replacement parts. The sankyo rocker arm is available in three versions, in white or tan: Vintage Pachinko - Pachinko Machine Parts - Replicas

His originals are pretty pricey—I bought a Sankyo replacement tray from him that cost almost as much as I paid for the machine—but it looks goood! And, like I say, I'm a purest (i.e. insane person).

If we're gonna do code, let's use the 'modern day' Microsoft recommended way of doing it. (More code, more complex, requiring more memory and faster processor!)

    10 REM Mainline
    20 GOSUB 100 'initialization
    30 DO WHILE X$ = "" 'process loop
40 GOSUB 200 'user input routine
    50 GOSUB 300 'output routing
    60 ENDDO
    70 STOP
    100 REM Initialization Process
    110 x$ = ""
    120 CLRSCR
    130 RETURN
    200 REM Capture user input
    210 x$ = ""
    220 x$ = INKEY$
    230 RETURN
    300 REM Display code
    310 LPRINT "insane... yeah!!"
    320 RETURN

    There, now isn't that better!

That is almost depressing. I was just asking my wife this week whether or not it would be difficult to do resin castings of all the major plastic parts of a vintage machine and then selling them on flea bay since it’s so hard to find originals. Seems I’m a day late and a dollar short again.
